The wife just aquired a 67 GP convertible that looks great but will need much work.

First we would like to raise the car a little as it rides on beautiful 15" rallys but the old springs are tired and she sits too low. We would like to upgrade the power ft drums to discs.

Does anyone have experience swapping springs, spindles & brakes from other GM models? Could all those items come from one model?

She will also need a new top and several chrome and light peices. Could I get some feedback on whether I should have a custom top sewn or purchase one off the shelf?

We want to start working on these items right away to get her back into shape ASAP!

You need to ask these questions in the big car forums. The chassis has been covered in the 62-6 forum and is stuck there uneer the widest tire under a 65 B body title.

We should encourage members to post long tutorials on how to do certain things

Within a year or two, we could have a number of common issues covered (and some, not so common)

Classic chevy posted a 5spd Tremec install a while back. That could be a good one too.


Things like..how to adjust valves properly, how to change points in a distributor
All that stuff could be covered in depth with pictures....kind of like 'an idiots guide to....'

I'm finding alot of people have more than one brand of collector car. You could setup a single forum to lump all the non-Pontiac Tech, Chat, and Classifieds into.

There are a number of PY members that are quite knowledgable about non-Pontiac stuff.

After being on the site for a couple of months, I find that information on tools would be a great addition.
I took two years at Vocational School (half days at H.S. and half at Vocational) for auto-mechanics. I also went to an Army "Helicopter Powertrain Repairer's" course after a fight with the ground ended my career as a Paratrooper (Airborne Infantryman). In these schools, and many ill-concieved repair attempts in friend's driveways, I have learned that life is much more pleasurable when using the correct tool for the job.
Any tips on modifying tools for a specific purpose, or having a tool made by a machinist, that would aid in repairing or rebuilding our Pontiacs, would be great. Even tips on which brands have great sizing/design for the money would help.

I would like to see a cross ref. parts forum. example: 472 cad rear main seal will work for 421-455 engines,dodge cam keys the same as pontiac,ford rocker arms will work for pontiac,also bbc rockerarm stud conversions.Really anything that can save us pontiac guys some money.

What worked for me?

We've all had problems with removing, installing, troubleshooting, finding something to solve a problem or to replace an unavailable part.

It would be nice to see members sharing what they've done to solve real teaser problems. I'm going to post a solution I had to solve a seemingly impossible header installation problem.

I like that... sort of a "Solved Puzzles" forum. Hopefully body- or model-specific solved puzzles will end up their respective "TECH" sections, too!

2X what Baron said: a tutorial section for the more popular installations/projects.

Such as:
- installing disk brakes
- installing a 12-bolt rearend
- installing electric fan
- switching from auto to manual and vise versa
- cleaning aluminum anodizing

I imagine there are hundreds.......................
