As some of you know I'm tubbing my car and goin ladder bar/coilover.
The plan is to do a full backhalf but try to keep my rear seat.
I like the street car look with full interior.
I plan on narrowing and reupholstering the seat to make it fit.
Most likely only one person will fit back there anyways.
I'm thinking though........if I'm gonna do all that work and most likely the
back seat thing won't work or will be too much $$$ I should just
4link it and be done with it. What are your thoughts?
Should I 4link it? I could sell my interior in the car to anyone with
a firebird or a camaro. This would give me more $$$ to play with.
I've been debating on Kirkeys up front anyways for safety reasons
over the stock interior. Any ideas guys?
What are the advantages over a 4link compared to a ladderbar car?

Car looks good the way it sits.Are those Cal-Tracs you have?Thats all you need.There are quite a few early Camaros up this way goin low nines on a 10" radial and Cal-Tracs.
I personally like a small tire car.

I want ride height adjustability, that's why I'm goin coilover
I love small tire cars also. I'll have either 325/50's or 315/60's on
the car.

My thoughts on the back half.My Firebird started out with ladder bars and then later switched to 4 link.As far as 60 ft,about the same,however the adjustability with a 4 link is far superior.Plus you should install a wishbone locator instead of panhard bar.It is much better.Make sure if you go 4 link to have the bars equall length and 22-23 inches in length.If you go with ladder bar set up than the bars should be approx,32-34" in length.Hope this helps on your decision.Good luck.

Friend of mine has broke his Mopar ladder bar car twice in the last five years causing damage to the rear, frame, and quarters both times. With the majority of the expense being in the installation of the equipment and not that much more expensive I would definitely go with the four link as the man said it makes the car worth more and gives you a foundation to go even faster in the future if you want. Art Morrison is the kit I went with and it starts around 750 with the good QA1 shocks.

Everything is being fabricated in house. My friend has a chassis shop.
He'll make the 4link.

Check the prices out there. Try using Mustangs, as they're the most common. Find two relatively identical cars and see what they go for.


The four link is superior in every way to the ladder bars and people will pay more for it.


Same deal with making a cage out of mild steel or CM. The CM car will be worth more every time.

If your friend has a chassis shop it should be a no brainer and I am not sure why you are even considering the LB... Do it right and do it once. I would hate to see that bird with a wrinkled quarter or worse.

Owning serveral cars of both types, my answer is 4 Link !!! Use the wishbone set up on the bottom. Enjoy!!!

Ladders(as Im finding out) are known to hit the rear tires harder than a 4 link. They also seem to be a bit more temperamental on slippery tracks where as you may be able to adjust a 4 link to compensate. Ladders are limited to adjustability which to the novice would work well. But now with more power I think I want to upgrade as well because the car is not biting anymore. Even with 14" rear tires it wont hook up. So, avoid the "I wish I would have gone with a 4 link" scenario and do it now. You may need some help setting them up once you finish fabrication but Im sure theres a chassis shop in Reno that has scales and can get them close until you can fine tune.

go ahead and put a 4 link in it and call it a day. thats what is going under my 79 i just need to get a wishbone i got the pahhard bar now. going to do it all right the first time.

I like my full back seat, cal-tracks, and 275/60-15 radial's good for @ least a 1.57 60' so far. It's not a race car though. I would like to build a race car and leave the bird a street car. Just my opinion though.
