Are you talking about the engine or the car?

Pontiac blue can be hard to find but any place that carries Plasti-Kote can order the Pontiac metallic blue, which is my personal favorite rendition of that color.

someone has a web page that shows the correct colors for all the years with info on where to find the most correctly matching paint. I don't have a link to it though, so hopefully someone who does will be along soon.

I'm going to paint the engine for my '73 black. Not because I can't get Pontiac blue, but because that's the theme of that car. Everything in or on that car will either be black, silver, or polished metal.

Napa carries pontiac metallic (if that's in your area)

autozone used to carry it, but most in my area have quit stocking it

i went to napa like monday or so, only had the duplicolor, it didnt look metallic, just look kinda darkish. do you know what brand it was? il make sure to ask if they can order specifically pontiac mettalic blue or if they carry it.

i was looking at getting a VHT, local speed shop sells it but they are all out of pontiac and they would have to order it and they only order by 6's and i need 2 at the most, so they cant help m which i believe is pretty F**!ing wrong, its prob cause im a young guy and they dont take me too seriously.

thanks again Baron.

I heard VHT was dicontinuing metallic blue b/c a factory fire or some b/s, and low sales anyway, but I also hear plasti-kote may have, or maybe por 15 can make something up for you. I gotta agree, the metallic blue is the most sexual color one can paint their poncho engine., if you find VHT, stock pile it

Plasticote #227 Pontiac Blue Metallic. Dead on the money color, still available (but I had to get the parts store to get it in from the warehouse).

It's s-l-o-w-l-y disappearing from the shelves. I bought an extra can.

Every time my brother or I have painted an engine black it's had problems. This last one I painted black too, my brother saw it and exclaimed "Oh NO! You didn't paint that black" Well it spun a rod bearing after less than 500 miles. When I repaired it. it got painted Pontiac Blue. Never again will I paint an engine black, no matter how good it looks.

Unless you are painting it to look original, paint it whatever color you want so that it looks good to you combined with your future paint combo or the look you want.

I used Ford Dark blue since it is close to the color my car will be one day and looks good with the rest of the engine bay black.

I did feel a little "dirty" for using a Ford color, but there you go. Got right over it.

I love to see a black engine. I've raced round track for several years in the local area and always painted the engine black. My 68 455 is black, the 400 I had before was black never a problem with any of them, Jim. LOL. I think it looks great under the hood.

67firebird,

Nothing better than pontiac blue. IMO the engine needs to stand out in the engine compartment.

I assume it´s a 67 Firebird´s engine you are planing to paint? Go with Bill Hirsch´s engine enamel, that´s the correct color that lasts longest.
It´s available via mail and you can get it in quarts or aerosol form:

http://www.hirschauto.com/acb/showpr...jectGroup_ID=1

BTW, that´s the above mentioned website concerning the correct engine colors for the different years:

I love the look of a well detailed super clean engine. Very nice! Too bad it's so damned hard to keep them looking that way once you start driving them...

You mean there is another possible color to paint a Pontiac engine besides metalic blue? Why would you? Hell, I paint all my engines no matter what brand Pontiac Metalic Blue !! Even the 460/531 in my 77 Supercab Ford truck!
