Buddy came into town and we did our annual junkyard crawl.
Huge yard here in Arizona (Hidden Valley) had to move, because the land they were on sold out. So the new yard is maybe a third of the original size. Stumbled upon a sea of fenders, just front fenders. There on top was a 70 GTO fender under that a 71 lemans fender, with a GTO decal on it. Made the way back to the office and inquired on the price of the real GTO fender. guys says $200 wel since they aren't growing on trees I agree to purchase it. He sends yard guy out to drag fender in. Owner thought the fender with the GTO decal was the one I wanted (since it said GTO) Yard guy brought me the correct fender. Owner was a little put off that I scored a Great fender w no rust minor damage for a killer price. WHOO HOO! one step closer

nothing beats this: Carlisle fairgrounds about 10 yrs ago on Sunday. Walking through the tumbleweeds on the way back to the car.....sticking out of a garbage can is a nice NO crack black dash pad from a 68 Lemans/GTO. FREE. (unless you count the labor of washing off the ketchup from the bag of french fries splashed down the side of it!)

71 gt-37 with a complete numbers drivetrain and interior. rough body but all there. free from a buddy who had neighbors *****ing to the health dept about the cars.
74 g/p, drove it home with a floating knock in the engine. posi diff, th400 that shifted good,4 rally wheels triple black car. 65.00 dumbass needed to make a stereo payment and sold the car that he needed to get to work. a couple years ago a local yard was closing and a buddy and i went on the hunt. i bought a 1 ton ford pickup load of rally 2's for scrap weight. the owner said those aren't worth anything, no one wants them. i finally got enough for all of my projects and a few spares. mike

In 97 I bought a 66 2+2 for $400. The person I bought it from just needed the 4 speed out of it. I pulled all the emblems, console, buckets, 8 lugs, posi, power antenna, reverb, long branch manifolds, driveshaft, and doors and made $2200 in parts and it all sold in less than a month. And to boot the guy at the junkyard gave me $200 for what was left. The 421 was long gone and replaced with a 400. I guess that is what the guy wanted. I need to see if the car is still down there. I need the channel in that the trunk weatherstrip sits on above the tail panel.

Pomoma, early 90s.
NOS in the box, never removed from the shrink wrap plastic on the tray, SD455 carb replacement. 50 bucks! Sold it a couple years later for right around 900 bucks, and now see they go for over 2 grand! Oh well, George |

Dont beat yourself up too bad George. With value of the dollar, current inflation rates, and cost of living adjustments. The $2000 dollers is equal to the $90 of back then

eBay 2 years ago: NOS '65 GTO taillight corner for @ $40 shipped. Not a shockingly good deal alone, but in the box with it was a NOS taillight grille and mint lense. Kept the lense and corner, sold the grille on eBay for $400.

Several years ago, I scored all the grilles, headlight bezels and bumper all in good shape from a 67 tempest in a yard in Santa Fe for $30... also got a set of 15x7 rally 2's with caps and rings for $40 I grabbed an HEI and it went home with me in the bottom of my toolbox
Another time I bought a 72 SS chevelle for $600 at the junkyard. Same junkyard, I bought a complete '73 Lemans wagon for $300... it had a 400 that ran good. I bought my 67 GTO for $800... and up in Northern NM scored a basket case '65 gto for $400. Sold everything since, except the '67 which I am now building!
