Same thing with the 427 I built. No seat of the pants feel...impossible to hook up, even under 2500 rpm. With slicks, its a different story...Robert 10851man@gmail.com

12.80's @ 109 is impressive, no matter what you have under the hood. I just really have my doubts about my 413, based on the available parts and my experience with Pontiacs, but I guess we will see.
With 9.00:1 static, heads reworked to flow 230-240 intake and 210-220 exhaust (hopefully) and a hydraulic roller with .547"/.547" - 222°/230° @ .050" on a 111.5° LSA, I would hope for at least mid 13.00's at 102 to 105 mph, but we won't know that until the summertime, if I am lucky to have the time off to finish and install the 413...Robert 10851man@gmail.com |

"When I nailed it, he hollered " Holy ****, this ******-****er moves!" and started grabbing for the dash. To say he was impressed is an understatement"......
Now ya know why Pontiac always made their cars with grab handles on the passengers side LOL... |

My 1975 Formula doesn't have a grab handle. I guess its not necessary with a 350...8-(

Robert:
I wish you lived closer, between us I'm sure we'd get it doing some good numbers. Absolutely the best thing for you to do whenever you get within 50' of that engine is to picture an arrowhead and keep repeating "Pontiac" over and over. In other words, forget about anything Chevy. There've been been far more Pontiacs blown up because their owners tried to make a Chevy out of them than ever were because of stretched or broken rod bolts (the real reason for most of the failures, not the rods!) I've played with Pontiacs since I was a kid and I still got pulled into the Chevy way of thinking. It's all too easy when they're coming at you from all sides with leading questions and making statements about what works on their Small-blocks. Don't get me wrong, it's not that you don't know what you're doing. You seem to to have done more with engines in general than I have. It's just that it seems I've had more experience with Ponchos than you. Just think Pontiac, realize they are very unique and listen to what the guys on the forum have done with their's. Rich |

Z Code, At Famoso, there used to be a silver 68 Firebird that ran in the 10.00s with full interior and all steel out there by you. It was all iron with RAII heads. That car did get street driven. Asher drove it enough to put appox. 7,000 miles a year on it. He even drove it here (althougth the 9" got 3.00 hiway gears put in it) one year for a family get together. It was a 428/400th powered combo. Don't know what happened to it after he sold it, but the car's biggest problem was he never got it really hooked up. 1.6's 60 ft. times was the best he ever did, but he built it to be a fun street car and it was.

Thanks guys....
It's hard to stay in focus with these engines because they operate (thrive) on such a different principle than I am used to working with. I don't think I have ever shifted anything I built @ 5500!!! I am looking forward to messing with the 350 while I gather up the stuff to complete the 413. Maybe this way I can get a 'feel' for what these engines like first hand. Thanks again for the support....Robert 10851man@gmail.com |

It's ok Z Code. Once you get used to shifting at that low 5500 rpm and running just as quick, you then go into the "why did the others have to run so high of rpm mode"?. Many converts go though that adjustment period.

I do have to admit, I really liked the way the Ford 427 sounded at 7000. I have only heard one 'song' I liked better and that was a 5.4 litre Porsche Flat-12 at full throttle...Robert 10851man@gmail.com

I really hate to be a troll b/c I didn't read through all the posts and I'm resurrecting a relativley old thread, but my brother (chevy guy) and I were cruising chevelles.com forums and this same exact thread (by the same poster) popped up: 455 vs. 454 in mileage (and power), and lets just say there was MAD respect for pontiacs on the chevy board! that's awesome imho for our hobby and it shows that the chevy boys arent as bad as some make out, not ALL of them at least.
