Did any 2nd gen F-bodies come with a 12-bolt
Did any 2nd gen F-bodies come with a 12-bolt. A friend of mine has a factory appearing 12-bolt for a 2nd gen Trans Am, is this possible? Thanks, Bruce

im pretty sure the 1970 models had it and possibly 71 as well

The 70 Trans Am did, and some of the 70 Formulas did, but that was the only year. It's possible that a 70 Firebird with a 400 could have ordered one, but I have no proof of that.
The Z-28's could get them thru 72, I believe. |

I know of a `70 Formula thats unrestored with 52,000 miles that has a 12 bolt.

I had a '70 Ram Air III Formula in 1982 that had a 12 bolt under it.

So, by the sound of it, this 12-bolt probably came from a '70-'72 Firebird or Camaro. He thought it may have come from a '73 or '74 Super Duty, any chance of that? Thanks all

I coulda sworn the '71 & '72 455 H-O cars had the 12 bolts in them too.
But I could be wrong about that... |

My father was the original owner of our 1970 formula it came with a 12 bolt from the factory.

Nope, I had a 71 TA and it was a 3.42 10 bolt, this was in 78'ish. I wish they would have, but it was a Chevy part...

I have never seen A 12 bolt under an original 73 -74 anything. All the SDs I've seen had the 'corporate' 10 bolts.

As Dave said, in Firebirds, 1970 was the only year to be able to have the 12 bolt rear.
So that leaves SD TA's out. Not to say that a 12 bolt from a Camaro wasn't put in it. Or even a Chevelle/GP/A-body 12 bolt.

Another thought is it could have been a "Dealer installed option"... A friend tried to order a new 74 GTO with an SD motor, the factory said no, but the dealer offered to install one brand new. The only reason he didn't do it was the dealer wouldn't offer him anything for the brand new 350 they were taking out. He took the car home and put a 455 in it himself.

I bought a 70 TA Ram Air III in 73 & it had a 12 bolt 3.31 posi.
GM parts books only list 12 bolt parts for 1970. |

My 70 esprit has a 12 bolt. I think its original.

73 Formula=400 4-speed had the 3.73:1 12-Bolt posi with rear stabilizer bar.
yet an SD-455 T/A auuto had whaaaat?....come again? |

That 73 Formula didn't have the 12 bolt in it originally.
It would have been the 10 bolt, probably 3.08 gear.
