Real sharp looking car despite our favorite air cleaner decal.
Were a/c convertible production #'s published? This listing says 300? and the other 69 convertible I posted here had #'s listed too, is this true? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ponti...92788530QQrdZ1 |

Convertibles are not my favorite on a muscle car....but that is one sharp looking '69 there...
I have no idea about the production numbers.

I would doubt only 300 out of almost 7,500 cars had a/c. I have not seen any breakdown on options or color combinations. Would be great stuff to know.
This car has a plastic back window instead of glass. Never seen this on a 1969 GTO, gives it a different look going down so low. Last edited by Andretti; 05-03-2010 at 10:05 PM. |

I don't know the exact number but I read somewhere the AC production was close to 1000 for 69 convertibles. Very nice car, it will be interesting to see what it brings.

Looks like a "knife" type disconnect switch.

JegsTek: So the '69 rear window only came with glass? That's what I always thought. My brother has a '69 Camaro IPC and they came with plastic rear windows, no glass.

69's always had rear glass from the factory and I'm almost positive all 68 to 72 "A" bodies did. My 72 GS455 had glass too. The plastic rear window is really scratch prone and requires constant polishing to keep the appearance up. They also turn quite brittle after a while.

...and they look too much like they belong on a boat more than on a car...

Everything that you guys are saying about the plastic is true....but I have to admit that I always enjoyed the cool factor of driving with it unzipped and open in warm weather.

I don't know...I've only had two convertibles. One had plastic and the other glass. Only the one with plastic zipped out and as is typical, the plastic became brittle and cloudy over time.

So,,,, I was always thinking my top was original to the car,,,, car was redone in early eighties and garage kept since, top looks too weathered for that life so I thought it was the original one.BUT the rear window is plastic, yes kinda scratched up but really not too bad. So does this mean it was impossible to have come from the factory this way?
Love to have a glass back there but lots more to spend the money on before I that happens. Must be it got replaced sometime before the restoration by the look of it. Looking a parts pricing it'd be silly to do a plastic window when today the glass windows don't cost that much more. Howard

Car went for $45,700.
He listed motor as D13 without a year, and never mentioned heads. Car was December built, so not the original motor, might even be a April 1968 block. Great GTO though. I have not seen any A/C stats either. |
