My old 70 Judge Convert was from the Fremont plant. The VIN on Fremont cars is not parallel with the timing cover on the block. It is usually up and to the left on an angle below the head but lower then the two digit engine code.

Yep, same with my Fremont-built 1970. Literally, until I had the engine out of the car, stripped, on a stand, I could not locate or see the VIN stamp. The lettering size is MUCH smaller, and is not located in the traditional spot.

Vin on my '71 starts out good and then goes so light that you really have to look close to see it. Also it is almost upside down just under the head. Freemont seemed to do things a bit differently.

I just found the vin number on my 1970 Calif Judge with the help of this web site.It was located to the left of the motor serial number close to the head run at an angle towards the groundin smaller numbers also.my motor has a stamp of AAR where the normal vin number stamp should be.my car is a early 1970 car.

Default VIN STAMPING

ONE PICTURE SHOWS VIN ON THE BOTTOM ON AN ANGLE, AND ONE SHOWS IT ON THE TOP, UPSIDE DOWN. SO THEY COULD BE EITHER?

Talking

It seems Freemont did their own thing. I had the wrong cam (standard 4bbl) in the HO and it did not have the 455HO on the front fender (which is okay by me as I am the sneaky sort then it comes to that)(Understatements are good)

Just to chime in here i have two Fremont 71 cars one was early (sept) and the VIN is in the usual place along the timing cover. The other car was later (Jan) and that VIN is up along the deck near the head (right side up) Both cars are 455's. I dont think there was any reason for this other then who was stamping the block from shift to shift.

My freemont 72 is like this...though all the numbers are there, they are very hard to make out on one edge, It was like it was stamped at an angle and didn't quite get the whole number stamped. It's at an angle too up near the head.
