Has anyone tried the disc brake conversion kit from Ames?

Not from Ames, but I did buy the one PY sells and I had too many issues with it (long story). Find out who makes it. Mine can from the Right Stuff and they were anything but... do a search on this topic and see why. I get flamed everytime this subject comes up.....

I don't know who makes the Ames kit, but I highly recommend Master Power Brakes conversion kits as they have fewer "tweaking" problems than other kits that I have used. I installed their 4 wheel discs on my 66 GTO, without much diffuculty.

I haven't tried them yet, but give scarebird a try. From what I know, you buy the bracket from him and you buy all of the other parts over the counter at the local parts store.

I had the standard Master Brakes 4 wheel disk kit installed on my 67 GTO. It really works great compared to the drums, but I have a small problem with the emergency brakes which I will resolve this summer.

I am in the process of finishing up my conversion on my 66 GTO using Scarebird's kit. I went with his because I also wanted to retain the ability to run the original 14' wheels if I ever desired.
So far, everything has gone very smoothly, and he has been very good to work with (good customer service). As soon as I finish getting my new Inline Tube lines installed and test drive, I intend to write a positive review of Scarebird in the business entities forum. I would strongly suggest you call him-
