With a shorter 4.125 stroke the 482 using the Edelbrock heads at a 234 cc runner volume made its peak power at 6900 rpm with a 279 at .050/.704 lift solid roller. With the new revised combo and using the bigger High-Port heads John's motor made it's peak power at a lower 7000/7100 rpm with a 285 at .050 /.850 lift roller.

(I'm trying to keep my new street 505 under 6000 rpm. Should dyno next week)

Don't know where my Desk Top sheets are at the moment but it sems it showed a peak HP(7??) @ 7,400/7,600 RPM.
Jack has told me his predictions are about 7,000-7,300 for shift points..
It's going to be a HO tractor motor !!

Troy, I've had the same troubles a few times on short tracks with my little old "street" car. I'm glad to see that you are looking at the brake "issue", I thought that you might have been running the old front drums. I had them on several big cars I used to race, they heat up and go out of shape quickly (causing me to have to change my shorts a few times as well), disks are far superior in every way!

Do you have a 12 bolt or Ford 9" in the works for the rear?......Cliff

Cliff: I really don't race on 1/8 mile tracks if I have a choice...although I would like to see what 4.56's or 4.88's would do in the 1/8th....
I MAY have to go with 4.30's for 505 combo ??
I plan to stay with the 59-64 9.3" rears with spools. I have a supply of different ratios (4) with Strange spools and Moser axles..
Tackling the two piece drive shaft is next project...
Can't see "down sizing".....

I'm betting the cam choice not the head cc and flow is making the "proposed" rpm peak that high. I'll still bet the head flow has it lower than the computer estimate for that CI motor.I'll bet 6500 max.
Should make that big tuna boat move on out!

To me there is a lot a Gray areas when entering data to Desk Top Dyno..
To much assuming ....I'll wait on the REAL dyno results...
505 may come sooner than I thought...I screwed up at T&T today...bounced
off a 7,300 chip and I may have hurt my trusty 462...
Only 5-10PSI oil press. at idle...sounds like (hope) I lost ANOTHER oil pump !!
It's yanking time ...again ...505 will be in the hole ASAP..
Time to move this "Tuna boat"....
Just for giggles...I saw a set a SBC heads in TN with ports that looked 1/2 the size of mine....damned things flowed 440 CFM !!! The bowls looked like pint milk containers..

60's man, are you running stock caps on that rear end? I busted two sets, Mark Williams makes billet caps for that set up. Since I upgraded, no problems.

I have billet caps on two set ups...need one more set for my 4.10's.
Going to try 4.30's with the billet caps this season with the 505, if tires can hold it..
I feel a little uneasy with the stock caps..
What power level are you running and is it a stick..??
