How do I get into a locked trunk?
No, I'm not hiding from my wife. Just bought a '64 Star Chief as a project for my oldest son's first car. The trunk is locked. I unhooked the backrest part of the rear seat from the bottom at the floor but it still seems firmly attached at the top inside somewhere. I pulled it out enough at the bottom just far enough to stick my skinny arm up in there aways, but it feels all solid, so if I got the seat off, I'm not sure even then I would be able to get into the trunk...what to do? Thanks

if its like my 66 the rear seat should slid up about an inch to unhook the top of the seat and then it can come forward

I think nearly every back seat has clips that just have to be pushed upward to get the back seat out. Just take out the back seat bottom and then from the underside beat it upward with your hands...it should go.

Take the back seat out,then take a 3/8 drive ratchet and a couple of long extensions and a 7/16 socket,unscrew the bolts on the trunk latch and it will open right up.

A 3/8 drill bit to blow thru the tumblers then a big screwdriver to rotate the lock. you will have it open in 3 mins or less
you will need a new lock anyway with no key |

if you work on cars alot i would get a lock out kit and a set a jigglers.

remove back seat. get a broom handle. tape a flat head screw driver to the end of it. get a flash light, shine it at the lock mechanism. stick screw driver in and turn clockwise. will open right up. i've done this at least 10 times and its simple.

I have just taken out the glove box lock, and had a key made for that code, then used it to get in the trunk. You will need to have a key made anyway...

Ha! You guys are awesome--I want to try all those ideas, but the last I guess seems maybe the way to go, since I need a new glove box key anyway. Sure did like the broomstick and screwdriver idea--might just do that for the fun of it. Thanks again!

I saw a guy cut sheet rock with a circular saw one time... LOL!
It worked, but what a cloud of dust he made!!! If you lock yourself out of a car, you can smash the window, call a locksmith or borrow a coat hanger to get in... My point is, there are many ways to get a job done. Some make a mess and others get it done cleanly and painlessly with minimal damage to surrounding areas... The pool of human knowledge is deep and wide, especially amongst the Ponti-Yackers... You did the right thing by waiting to get a few opinions before doing anything else... Carry in your vin# to a GOOD locksmith. He can look up the code for the keys and make you one for the trunk.
