I put my tubeless 15X33 Mickeys at 5 lbs. before loading the car into the trailer last September 4. Just checked them and they're at just over 4 lbs. Also, a tubeless tire is safer than a tire with a tube because the tube will cause the tire to build more heat. Hot tires and speed don't mix.

I don't know about "hand soap", but I always use Dawn dishwashing liquid. I keep a bottle in the garage, just for mounting tires. I coat the inside of the tire completely with a clean shop rag soaked with Dawn, and then the bead. It has always worked good for me.

HIS, not to argue with a rocket scientist, but....100lbs or sprung weight is a tenth(.1). not .01. But then again I am not a believer in the sprung vs unsprung formula posted either, I beleive it makes some difference, but not that much. JMO,FWIW. -Jim

Diamond Jim....I was "quoting" the M/T site for their "highly technical guidance". DiamondJim how come it took ME to spell-out the obvious and YOU to point-out the obvious. I seems to be in agreement on the tenth-sec for 100Lbs.. 12Lbs unsprung *8 to equal ~100Lbs load ("sprung") for +0.1 ET. Like a tithe huh. M/T guidance spells-out .01

Also: seems the tubless folks here are totally NOT-tubular about slicks.

I did an experiment with 2 balloons: put a hole in a balloon then stuff it into another balloon that hasa had the blow-ring removed...and blow the INNER balloon up against the outer balloon.

Good luck: I found it impossible to get the inner balloon to seal against the outer balloon. Since I'm a dumb-arse moron, can someone else try this at home and see if then can get an inner balloon (the tube) with a small hole to seal its air to an outer balloon that has it's blow-ring cut off?

HIS, I prefer the green Palmolive dish soap! I keep some at work in a Plastic container for mounting my tires.

I also use Hunter wheel lube on the bead. Acts as a lube when wet, and an adhesive when dry.

Anyone in my area, let me know if you need your tires mounted.

I have a pair of M/T's N A T U R A L Rubber tubes in nice shape, with the fancy valve-stem jobby. Fits the rage that includes the 28 x 9 x 15 Slicks. They are in nice, unscrewed condition.

Sooooo, I gotta drill-press the Rims full of rim-screw holes first huh.

Personally, if I run any kind of slick on a car with any kind of power, I would put screws in the wheels/beads whether they would be tube or tubeless.
Just make sure the screws are aimed at the bead when installing them.
They can start to go toward the tire just above the bead.
Then they may go through the tire and possibly leak air there.

If you have a steady hand you can do it with a hand drill after marking off the screw locations. I did mine with the slicks already mounted (without tubes). Practice on the back side first

If you've already drilled out the valve stem hole and want to go tubeless you can get the larger metal valve stems from bob drake reproductions on the net.

HIS, I apologize, I didn't catch the MT .01 and your being facetious, my bad. I do know that running tubes and not screwing rims can be a bad thing(with enough power applied). I have run both ways, my QT Pros have tubes and screws, I ran Goodyear slicks without tubes or screws, now I have MT Drag Radials(no screws). Not only are drilling all the holes a PITA, but the MT tubes I have required drilling the valve stem hole out. Goodluck-Jim

Sorry if someone already said this I didn't read this whole thing but I had the same problem and I put a sh!t load of green seal in it for flat tires and it sealed. Didn't feel like tearing the tire down again. I don't think this would hut performance just a pissed off tire guy when he changes it.

MikeB, I went to the Bob Drake site but could not find the oversize valve stems(very interesting but 144 page catalog!). Any idea where they show up? This oversize stem might allow me to run MTDR's on this set of(drilled out) wheels. Thanks -Jim

you can get .425 and .625 vavle stems at napa..............I may have the exact sizes wrong, but there are generally two sizes available.......

Probably drill the rims tomorrow.
May be buying a pair of metal valvestems from Drake ($2.50x2) or NAPA...will check ADV Auto for their Made in Canada I mean China offering.
Probably go tubeless.

Has anyone tried the balloon in a balloon experiment?....

the exact valve stem sizes usually on the shelf at NAPA are .453 and .625.......
