I am in the process of helping design a port for the kauffman high ports with stock pushrod location. We believe will be able to keep rather small port with incredible flow potential. The intakes will be very close to 400 cfm and produce over 850 horses with a 455 cubic inch motor. Heads will be totally CNC ported using KRE valves and standard castings.

That is what I want to hear.400cfm and standard pushrod location with small ports means good velocity.Sounds like they will have the mid range touque that Pontiacs are famous for and still have good top end.
3000$ for a complete 400cfm Pontiac head with standard pushrod location and can be used on factory blocks(but you should have a aftermarket block)very nice. Now some questions.They are going to flow about what a Tiger does as cast.So what can they flow with a cnc port job and the pushrods moved over.Will they be able to around 420cfm like a Super Chief or more like a Tiger? At any rate a very good deal,the best bang for your Pontiac head buck.I just wish I had an extra 3 grand laying around.Sounds like the perfect head for my 505 CI 700-750 HP pump gas engine plans. |

Wow that's incredible! Almost 400cfm without moving the pushrod
![]() My 64cc chamber highports just came in a few days ago. My head porter is going to start working on them later this week. --- It's nice to know they have the potential to flow huge numbers without moving the pushrod. Good luck. I'm sure you'll fill the 10 orders you need pretty quick.

How do you profess to get the port tall enough without getting into the valve cover rail to make 400-cfm and retain the pushrod "bulge"? What compensations will be made to the spring seats and the area above the port roof to retain wall thickness integrity?

WHEN THE 1ST 10 SETS ARE DONE i WILL SNAP A FEW PICS. iF YOU SEEN THESE HEADS THE SEATS CAN BE CUT TO CRAP AND BACK. i KNOW A GUY WHO CUT THE SEATS DOWN AND IS USING A SHORTER VALVE TO SAVE WEIGHT AND VALVE LENGTH. WITH DIFFERENT GUIDES YOU CAN REALLY LIGHTEN THE VALVES, AND GO 11/32

How about flow numbers, port cc, runner cross section. Any of the info would be nice.
As far as how tall can they go, I have a test head that I got from KRE that I ported to 2.850" tall. The problem is anything over 2.600 tall you will start have some trouble porting a Victor to fit without welding some to the top. |

The ports on the HP heads John and I did are about 2.611" tall and there were no welding issues with the Victor intake. Ours have the pushrod holes re-located 0.500" and they flow over 400 cfm. Lots of work to get there.
The highest cfm numbers I personaly know of from a set of HP heads that did not have the pushrod hole re-located and without offset rocker arms is 382 cfm at .800" lift. They were not ported by KRE and those ports are about 2.650" tall. There might be others that flow more but getting people to discuss it is difficult, it's a very secretive group ! I know of another set without re-located pushrod holes that were done by KRE and they went 376 cfm at .700" and its port opening was about 2.500" tall. |

i'm with brian on this. i have a set with the pushrods moved and the ports raised so high we had to use intake spacers to make a victor fit and they only flow [email protected]. Don't get me wrong, if you have the talent to do this with a stock pushrod location that would be great, but unless your cnc machine can also insert epoxy in the port floor, the mid lift numbers are not going to be very good even if they do flow 400 at the peak.

Never bad mouthed a KRE head...just wanted to learn something, and maybe the rest of you schnooks can learn with me. Steve's and Punisher's answers are at least addressing my questions directly.

Also should point out the set I mentioned above that went 382 cfm had the pushrod hole sleeved and head bolt sleeved. It had no epoxy work, and I just found out that they went 382 cfm at .700 lift, not at .800 as I stated.

Let's not forget the origional intention here, and post, to have a rather small port with good flow, and for 455 based combo (or similar, I'm sure). This is a natural.
The origional plans and conception for our set of 400 cfm HP heads was based on a short stroke 482cid combo. If they had a bigger combustion chamber, my new 505 Pump gas street motor would have jumped alive with a set of "370 cfm" High-Port heads with the better combustion chamber design and additional air flow, and without a large intake runner volume. Not to sound skeptical but have there actually been a set of ports done that the cnc program was digitized from? If so what are the flow numbers, valve diameters used, width/height and cc‘s of the runners. In the event that this proves out to be true as claimed you will see quite a few HP heads going your direction, and one set might be from me.

I will not own the port design the work is being by a very large company that does hundreds of sets a month for many different companies. I got them to cut us pontiac guys a break. I can tell you that the have tons of experience with the high port head. After they saw the head they have a few things that can be improved with little work. Once the digitizing is done you will be able to do them with this company for 1600 without doing the intake that will be 700 extra. They are expensive but they get results. I will ask them for the port size and flow numbers and get them to you as soon as they get it to me

trust me, if you can get to 400cfm, 1600 is VERY cheap compared to what it cost me to get mine over 400. i hope this works out for all of you.

That's $1600 for the CNC port plus the cost of the heads, right? If not, I don't see how one could make any money off the heads.

What is the exhaust flow and are the exhaust ports haveing a program done to and if so what are the numbers? Intake flow is only part of the equation.
