I like these '72 style caps just fine myself Lloyd,but I'm kinda biased on the subject,I got a set just like those for my '72 firebird.

Though I agree the earlier style caps b-man mentions look nice as well,I like yourself,just prefer to keep things looking close to "correct" for the year model of car.

I've also seen two variations of those earlier style poverty caps he mentioned.

Frankly though,,,I've never seen a poverty cap I did'nt like!!!

At one time I had sets of each of several styles,I had a set of the late 60's style,the "baby moon" style,these '72 styled ones,and another style that were from a late seventies/early eightees car (lemans IIRC).

But I sold those and kept these,as that was the correct cap for the car I have now.

Car looks good as-is.

I too have a thing for poverty caps. I have a triple-black '71 4-speed convertible that currently has 15x7 honeycombs. I'd like to find some 15x7 steel rims and add poverty caps and red-lines.

Some questions that I have:

Are the poverty caps original to 1971 A-bodies the same as 1972 (as on Lloyd's) or the type used in 1970?

Having been unsuccessful trying to locate a 15x7 steel rim that will fit an A-body, I'm considering buying some from Wheel Vintiques as well. Will the correct style of poverty cap fit either 14 or 15 inch steel rims? In other words, are the steel rim dimensions of the portion that fits the poverty cap the same on 14 and 15 inch rims?

The 71's are different than 72's. They changed them in 72. I belive the 71 caps are the same from the mid 60's to 71, so there are more out there than the 72's. I think the 72's lasted till about 76.

The poverty caps will fit either 14" or 15" wheels. The outer diameter of the center section - which the cap snaps over - is approximately 10 1/8" on both.

I highly recommend Wheel Vintiques for the plain steel wheels. They are made to order and mine arrived about eight days after I ordered them. They are straight and true and balanced out well. My four 15x7 wheels came out to $314.00 plus $68.40 freight, from Fresno, CA to my shop in Bellaire TX.

BTW, here are the appropriate Wheel Vintiques part numbers. These wheels come unfinished bare steel only:

15x7, 5 on 4 3/4, 4 1/4" BS: 62-5734044 These are the wheels I ordered for my GTO.
14x7, 5 on 4 3/4, 4 1/4" BS: 62-4734044
14x6, 5 on 4 3/4, 4" BS: 62-463404

PB and Judge273 are correct about the caps, '6?-'71 used the style that Judge 273 posted pics of.

Unfortunately it is in the restoration mode. My biggest problem is time to work on it as I travel quite a bit and I am trying to do most of this on my own. Not excited about turning it over to someone else.

I have had an offer from Scott Tieman and Dan Jensen as to what to do and help. Problem is, they live near the wrong Portland. Michigan not Oregon. I just wish I could afford to send it to Scott for the body and engine to Dan but that is way too $$$$$.

It is in my garage right now awaiting for me to have time this summer as that is my biggest down time. Then and late Dec/early Jan.

May just try to get it painted/engine in this summer and then proceed from there. Body is is good shape except for lower front fender cancer (have patch panels from PY) and fiberglass in front is cracked. Have another complete front. Need to replace trunk in one place as have hole over gas tank. Car was undercoated when new so should not be too much else.

I have plenty of grills, tail lights, extra bumpers. Have original engine and a correct M-22.

Now if I can just get home and work on it. I am in Anchorage, AK right now and will not get home until 28th to leave again on12th May for a week or so then I get a breather. If I can just avoid the honey do list I'll be okay. LOL
