Why not sell the neat 55 Pontiac and just go get a 55-57 chitrolet? That way you can wear your bright orange bowtie proudly amongst your fellow bowtie friends.

You might want to try posting in the 'Non-Pontiac motors in Pontiacs' forum.
Also, try searching the archives, as I'm sure it's been discussed here before.

Ouch!

I gotta admit though, a guy calling himself "pontiac jack" asking how to mount a Chebby motor in a rare old Pontiac is kinda ironic.

Wrong guy. I put Pontiac engines in Buick/Ford/Chev/GMC/mini-rods/etc./etc.
But I don't fault the guy for building whatever he wants; just tried to point him to the right forum.

A tiny little chivvy in a nice 55 Pontiac? Thats one way to do it. I guess thats no more sinful than putting a 389 in a Corvette like I did once.
Pontiac 287, welcome to the PONTIAC forums. LOL
As you might have noticed the genuine Pontiac V8 is well regarded around here. Mostly a pretty prejudiced lot in that regard. As Pontiac Jack suggested the non-Pontiac motor section has some info for those who jhavent seen the light (8-) One way or the other, you'll find some Pontiac help and friends around here.

Why not set it up to run with the front mounts? That's what those bolt holes in the front of the block are originally for... Check J C Whitney for the conversion mounts, they may still carry them...

Default Chevy in a 55

I considered this swap before going to a 350 Pontiac for my 55 Safari. The Ponty is a lot easier and will bolt onto the orig front mount and a rear mount is relatively easy to fabricate. Orig ex manifolds bolt right up so orig ex can be retained. There were issues with ex manifolds fouling on the chevy as its tight around the front suspension and steering box. I suggest you bif the chevy and look for a 350. By the way if you want more oomph the 400 and 455 will bolt in the same as they are the same physical dimensions. The 400 is prolly the better engine although there will be those who would argue thet point!!
