Whats the ball park price to have this engine rebuilt and want to get anywhere from 300 to 400 hp out of it? Right now it's only rates at about 230 HP stock. Thanks for any input. Longtime reader first time poster.

I just got an estimate, which is a bit high. Starting with a bare 400 block doing the following
magnaflux ultrasound bore/hone complete roller setup stroke to 462-468 KRE heads blueprint ....and so fort expeting about 450+ hp complete work, installation and tuning is $9K. You can go as low as 3-4K or way up like mine, depending on how much power you want and how much work you can do yourslef. Hope this helps

No shortcuts, no old used engine parts except for the block, crank and head castings. ____________________________________ 77birdman, your estimate for an aluminum head roller-cam stroker engine including installation and tuning is right on the money, within a few hundred $$ of what it would cost for sure.

HUGE difference between 300hp and 400hp............especially in a 400 build............yes, you can get a all stock parts 300hp engine built for 3-4K.............once again, it depends on where you live and the "quality" of work........if you live in Podunk USA and have the local hack do it its gonna cost A LOT less than say a top noch well known machinist from the "big" city area's...sometimes you get what you pay for.......SOMETIMES....

Yes sometimes you get what you pay for....................so do I spend 9G on a 450hp built by a well known local reputable outfit, ot just spend 3G on a stock rebuild and throw it in....................
CAN SOMEONE MAKE UP MY MIND FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

$9K for 450 horses sounds like a ripoff to me. I mean, c'mon, how much does it cost for a shop to do the machine work?
I built my 440 engine, including 270 cfm ported heads, Ross pistons, Eagle rods, etc. for less than $6K. I did the assembly myself, but that shouldn't cost you $3K. A basic stock rebuild with cast pistons and reusing your rods if they pass mag inspection should come in under $3K. To hit the 400 HP mark with a 400 though you'll need better heads than the 7K3s.

Nothing is being resued, other than the 400 block I bought. I threw out my old motor, bought a complete 400 block (only using the core form that block) and starting from scratch from the crank up, everything is brand new. I am not doing any of the work myself, need to work (do about 12 hrs/day) and don't have the necessary skills. I know what needs to be done, even know how to do it but do not have the skill level for it.
So far I got many conflicting inoformation about the 9K price, I think it is about 1K over what it should be, however the shop doing the work have a 1st rate reputation. Can someone give me 9 grand? comon guys make my day
