I am repainting my 69 Bonneville,, and would like to replace all the rubber stripping around the doors and the stainless /with felt window trim pieces,, any ideas where I might find these?? does PY sell these??
Also ,,, has anyone out there ever shaved the door handles on a bonneville, and used the existing latch,,and a selnoid ?? Thanks for any infromation you might have,, Bill

Ames or Steele has weatherstripping and fuzzies. Look at big car vendors for such.

look at the online py catalog. if they sell it it's in there.

re shaving the handles, i've nver seen a set that's worked for an extended period of time without problems.

Badrat, I have shaved the handles on all of my cars and I have never had any incidents. the biggest thing you want to prepare for is the "what if" scenario, this can be accomplished by having a failsafe option. I have re-used the existing latch for all of my shaves as well, what you want to do is actually remove the latch and ziptie the door lock lever down so the latch doesnt accidentally engage. The other thing you want to do is utilize some bicycle brake cable (you can get it in different lengths) this is your "what if" problem solver this is used as the back up release (manual) that you can hide through out the vehicle the other option is to have pigtails some where you can have access to them and utilize a 9 volt battery to trigger the solenoid, solenoids rarely go bad I use the 45lb version and throughout my experience with these I have no had one failure (knock on wood. I am going to be shaving the handles on my 70 Catalina as well as adding aftermarket power windows. If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Thanks Guys,,,good suggestions ,,,,I have shaved the handles on all my projects for years, but they were all pre 1950 cars,, and I used bearjaw latches,, but I was just wondering about the stock latches and the way I would have to run some pullys to have the correct angle for pulling the latch,, Good idea on the locking lever,, that could turn out to be a real problem,, the emergency entry cable could probably run forward through the door post and out the bottom of the fender at the rocker panel..since the bottom of these doors are not exposed like the old cars are,,
on the window and door rubber... I asume the catalina and bonneville are the same????? Thanks again Bill

Yes the 2 cars have the same window openings but different trim levels (someone correct me if I am wrong) I have run the cables down there as well on my 67 Chevelle I installed a magnetic read switch to trigger the trunk (I have shaven that as well) and put the cable inside there, one other thing I forgot to mention is that on my 59 Belair I installed a battery back up unit to the both doors as well so I actually had to options of entering the vehicle just food for thought on the battery back up!!

I have a 12 Volt battery for my DeWalt drill.. and use it for testing power windows during a install,, since I also shaved the trunk keyway , I also put in a cable release on that,,[ the gas door release out of a honda],, so I guess I gould put a door backup terminal in the trunk,, on at least 1 door,, but both doors would be just as easy and much more convenant,,
