And the 77 I've had for the past two years.

I don't have any digital pic's of the other 2nd Gen birds I've owned.

Ok,trivia.
I know there were 5402 W-72's in 79,Formula's and T/A's combined.
But minus the 1817 TATA W-72's,what does it mean in the PHS docs of 2917 hatchbacks?None of the Formy's and T/A's were hatch backs
That leaves 3585 if you subtract the TATA W-72's from the manual 5402 Firebirds.
So,what's the 2917 mean?..............or am I missing a lug nut here?

Well 79 W72 production was 8693. 2485 hardtops, 2917 t-tops, 1817 10th anniv., 1107 SE's, and 367 Formulas.

So your lug nuts were just loose, not missing!

Father&son73TA, thanks for the compliment. W-72 Bandit is correct and has a very nice car. There were 367 Formulas built with the W72 400/4 spd.

W-72 Bandit are you located in Houston? I am in San Antonio. My car was bought in the Fort Worth area and ended up in Schulenberg and I bought it through a dealer in Houston several years ago. The prior owner had "duded" up the engine compartment and I have been trying to return it to a more stock appearance.

The prior owner also cut off the AC and heater connections at the firewall so I need to replace the evaporator and heater core. The car runs great and is very strong. I had a 1979 W72 in high school and college and this car brings back alot of memories.

I'm from the Houston area originally but I've been in the Beaumont area since '90.
My Formula is from Peoria Illinois. A friend of mine bought it there in 04 and it went to Alabama with him. I bought it from him 2 years ago. Its kind of a stripper, just a/c, door edge guards and bodyside molding. 57k miles.

I have several friends in your area, Jay Lord comes to mind, he is in the POCI chapter there.

I know Jay and Josie through our local POCI chapter. We have our annual car show coming up on October 6th.

Have you done any mods to your car? I listed mine for sale last year when I ran out of room to store it. I didn't have much interest at my $22k price so I decided to keep it and glad that I did. Most people don't know how rare these are.

I have a friend with a Ram Air III TA and it keeps up with him just fine. I have headers, dual exhaust, a little hotter Edelbrock cam, intake and carb. I still have all the original parts.

Ha! Small world. Jay and Josie are great people! I've been to the POCI show there 2-3 times in the 90's. I'll try to make it in Oct.

My Formula is bone stock aside from having no cat. and a true dual exhaust.
I have been thinking of doing some mods, just lazy at the moment.

Is the show at Rollingbrook Mall? Guess I need to ck the website.

Dave, What color is the red car? It looks like the copper color I am doing mine in. Mine is a '80 in the actual Rust Color. Great looking car!

Well, I'm hardly computer-savvy, but I'll try loading-up some pix of my ride here, which I purchased brand new in August 1978...

I was actually looking to buy a '79 --- sight unseen at the time --- as long as it had the T/A-6.6 engine with a 4-speed manual. I went to three different dealerships looking to order one, & every one of them said that this engine was NOT being made available for sale in Canada in the 1979 model year.

I was shaking the hand of the salesman at the 3rd & final dealership I visited, when lo & behold, off in the distance seated at a corner of the show room floor, was this car. I asked about the engine & tranny, & liked what I heard. I made a beeline directly to it, did a single walk about, then proclaimed "Sold!"

Love at first sight, I guess...anyway, it's been mine ever since...

By popular demand(!), here are a coupla pix of the T/A underhood, & occupant interior...

Note the "homebrewed" cup holder on the floor, looking inside from the passenger's side.

I don't know if you can see it, or not, but there is a very nasty opening in the vinyl cover of the dash assembly, just above the LH side of the passenger assist strap --- typically where they all seem to crack / fracture after time, if exposed to sunlight. If anyone knows of a special "fix" utilizing heat shrink compound, I'd sure like to know of your experiences & opinions surrounding that supposed technique!

I tried the "slip over" dash cover trick...I'm afraid it only made things far worse...
