I wouldn't call it cheating to use the $9.48 when I read the Pontiac protocol listed with that option/variance. Some options say when with 345,347,348. That one only says with 345. We would need an original window sticker to be absolute. But Billing may have had a different way of scrutinizing this than we do. And their own protocol could be causing the 347 and 348 options to overide the 345 recognition (discount) - in this instance. I'm calling it a glitch in protocol on this example until further notice.

Im not mentioning anything about GTO belts,probably muddied the water
on this forum by combining info for RA GTOs and Firebirds. But Im sure this will happen. As for the BHC] I dont have the same package as PHS supplies and at moment cant find them as all mine are in the same place...(misplaced). Im not going to break apart sales sheets to scan but will take a pic of them. It could very well be the 1/1/68 rollover date for no charge on 754 on hardtops,but the Sept 67 shows a charge for all and Feb 68 shows a charge with convert in ( ). Alot must have been revised as for pricing as of 1/1/68 and Im going to dig thru all the prices and see whats up. |

Something to note - the BHC has the EUN listed as 343699, the EUN on the December cast XS block I picked up is 448144 - over 100k units later! My XW cast C118 was put in the June 24 invoiced car. These motors were produced well in advance of the cars they went in.

You are off a little on the radio price. I ran a sheet (attached) That block on Ebay shows that nothing is the norm. It goes against everything I have seen or heard. I’d also like to see the whole card. Forming a hypothesis (Guess) off the numbers, it looks like a 6D or 7A built car. From a EU standpoint, the latest block I’ve ever seen had an “809517” stamped in it. It was also on EBay a while back. However, that block had a ground part number and a D248 casting date. So it was 10K numbers after but cast over a month earlier. Maybe they had to rush a block in for this car? Another oddity is the lack of “96” on the heads. The few late cars I’ve seen had the 96 casting John (68ramII) Does your conv’t have a 96 cast on the heads? We need more cards! Off to the SEMA show  I’ll check back next week! Brian |

I've had 3 of these blocks in the last 5 years and the stampings were all the same as the one on ebay "knarly"

BlkBrd: Someone is going to have to provide a full sales manual in order for anybody to do the work on your TripBlack Ram Air Bird. It has a "Misc.Amount" listed under the Label Price. We don't have access to the Miscellaneous Eqpt/Options page on the FGF website. That Misc.Amt. could mean anything.
I lost my work on your Car - lil laptop froze up - didn't have it saved - had been fooling with it for 2-3 days. Not ready to start listing all that stuff on your Car again until we get more info/data. I'm losing credibility on spelling and math - but from memory it was in the $80'ish range short/under the Label Price. And that was without factoring the 7.00 Misc Amt. in any form. But did include the Destination charge. You guys can see how the option codes are pulled from the BHC - and don't be afraid to try one. This one is a doosey. I'm thinking maybe (a trunklid luggage rack, Camaro rear spoiler or trailer hitch). Also has an enormous Destination charge. Was it exported to China originally ? As nice as the Bird looks on paper - you should probably dump it fast and cheap. I may be willing to bail you out of the Car. Let me know. Some of you guys are just gnarly sumbichs in here. lol |

Guys,
Has anyone seen a RAI or RAII block with a cast or stamped P/N other than 9792506? The one in the eBay auction is P/N 9790071. I'm not doubting the sellers claims because I know him to be a serious/knowledgable enthusiast, and that P/N was certainly available in '68. I do know that Pontiac started stamping the blocks with the "2506" in '69, but did this start in '68 during the RA II production run? |

I asked over on FGF about the 742 item.
A respondent from FGF came on PY and did a search for it - and found it. (lol) Sort of like your neighbor coming into your house and finding your car keys for you. That is why we do the decoding for you and high-light the options and equipment for you. Box "37" gives the axle ratio, which on your car is a "H" or 3.36:1 ratio. The box "74" with a "2" in it is for an internal assembly operation on your vehicle and is not an option. I believe that "742" is the operation for installing seat or shoulder belts. That would make sense.
In beginning of 68 model year (before Jan 68), seat belts weren't required by the gov't. Some came with the bolt holes, but no belts.

On the Black RA I Bird (my ex car btw :-)..... Special paint was a MID production year change for starlight black. It may not have even been an extra charge on that particular car. I dont think this helps you though/ If it wasn't an add on cost for BLKBRD's car then you are even FURTHER in the hole with regard to getting on top of the price discrepancy! |
