Just a question
I'm looking for a 70-72 Lemans, 2dr of course. I'd like something that's at least presentable, meaning little/no rust and having usable floorboards/trunkpan/frame. I'd like something that doesn't need paint, meaning an amateur or older paint job is OK as long as the car looks good from 20 feet and is one color. Bondo isn't an issue as long as major components aren't held together by it(I have a friend who pretty much welded a whole quarter on his 71 Nova together with bondo.) I'd like something that's complete with servicable trim and accessories. I don't have to have NOS pieces or anything like that. I'd like something that has an original Pontiac V8 automatic. Bench seat with column shifter is preferred. I don't have to have spoilers or hoodscoops or GTO emblems or anything like that but would accept it if it were done right.
All in all, I suppose what I'm looking for is a driver quality car with no major flaws. I've treid to describe what I'm looking for as specifically as possible, but I'd be willing to accept a few blemishes, imperfections or give a little on the features I'd like the car to have since "finding the perfect car" seems to be replacing the saying "needle in a haystack." What am I looking at pricewise? |

They are all over the board, asking price and selling price. Some stilll think they should be getting top $ BJ auction prices.
Give it a another month and prices will be even lower. Prices on drivers are dropping since early Spring from what I have seen. Try local Craigslist or in your state. They come up sometimes and maybe you can find one from an estate. They are still out there. |

Lets say we pick a random number of $7500. That money is going to buy a much better car in most areas of California than it will in Ohio, or likewise any rustbelt states.
I walked away from a 68 Lemans convertible- mint top, good interior, a/c roadworthy car in May. Car had been ziebarted and had too many ziebart holes, and also had some rusty spots. No matter what you spend, I give you this sage advice- if it has rust, it's gonna be a bust. To properly repair rust requires time and skills that completely surpass fixing mechanical or electrical problems. |

There is a real nice blue one in TN and he is asking 6.8K for it. That is a deal and it is real nice.

I saw the blue one in TN on this site. If it were a little closer, I'd definitly go for a look. I still may wind up seeing it.
Hey Harper, you really think prices are dropping on these things? I've been looking for either a Lemans or a Cutlass(have to admit I'd prefer a Lemans  ) of that era reasonably priced and in decent shape for a few years now. I've noticed these things have shot out of site in price. I think they've outperformed F bodies and Mustangs, at least on the market.No matter what you spend, I give you this sage advice- if it has rust, it's gonna be a bust. Funny you should mention that. I looked at an intact running 72 yesterday about 75 miles from where I live. Car is as close to exactly what I want as I can find, but it has rust issues over the tops of the wheelwells and along the back of the trunk. The lower quarters were also replaced but they're starting to seperate. Car comes with extra parts like trim pieces and a nice disassembled 400 shortblock along with an extra set of 15" rallies. Guy wants $6200 or an offer for everything and won't seperate the parts. I'm leaning away from buying it. I'll just say right now I'm in the market for one and I'd spend up to $6000, although I may bend this rule if what I find is closer to what I want. |

You're definitely better off buying one that is as nice as possible as opposed to thinking "If I buy one for $2K, I have $4K to put into it and it's the same as buying a $6K car." I've been down that road.
On the other hand, they are getting harder and harder to find...
