kre d-port chambers
I picked up a set of 310 D ports and wondering if anybody has trouble w/ chamber mixture and hot spots expecially around the spark plug. reason I ask is that the CNC job on the heads is rather rough compared to that of a set of Dart heads or any production head for that matter. They look like another round of cleaning is what they need.

You are describing a typical CNC finish which is not ever as smooth as hand finished. Wont hurt for you to polish them some, but you may want to call KRE and talk to them if it seems really rough. Without pics its hard to say whether or not you'll have a problem.

When I picked them up, I had mentioned it to Ken and he stated that although it is roughlooking, thye have never had problems with it. He did mention that if I so desired, that cleaning up around the spark plug wouldn't be a negative thing. its not that I dont trust Ken, just trying to see if anybody has had any concerns or problems regarding the matter.

I think it should help with mixture and burn. I thought what you were talking about was the way the the runners were. I have them on the car and love them.

Mine looked just like that until I had them ported. They cleaned that up along with the runners.

From what I've seen that's typical for CNC ported heads. I've seen several sets of CNC ported LSx heads that look similar.

I looked at some DART heads the other day that had the cnc steps so tight they looked polished by comparison to KRE's. When I got my KRE HiPorts the chambers looked like they had been done with a chisel, way too many very sharp edges for me to be comfortable with so I had them stripped and smoothed. more $$$
Kaufman said dont worry about it, smooth them if it makes you happy but not necessary. They are probably right but we did it anyway. I have another set of HiPorts with the same high cnc steps but for whatever reason the edges are not razor sharp like the first set. Im not going to do anything to these. |

So the valve seat inserts on these don't interlock ???
What does everyone think about the "gap" between them with the insert being so thin Wonder what the seat confomity looks like in this area after some hard usage ? The edelbrocks look much neater in this seat area (even with the crappy chamber shape)
