Default 70 firebird front suspension

I just finished pulling the last bit of suspension off my firebird for a rebuild, and am wondering if anyone has an opinion on the bolt in coil-over shocks offered by QA-1 (or any others the use the stock control arms). Both shocks are toast and one coil spring is broken in 2 places, so it all needs to be replaced, are the coil-overs a noticeable difference in ride or would new shocks and springs be as good. Getting new ball-joints and bushings in either case.
Thanks for any help.

coil overs are not going to make the difference but the spring rate and shock will weather it a coil over or a std. coil and shock, now a coil over does react a bit faster to input from the road but on a street car you will not be able realy to tell the difference, but if you are going to use the coil overs with stock lower arms you should strengthen the mounting are to support the load of the spring now being applied to the shock bolts.

What would you do to support these shocks from Ca1 I am going to use this set up and would like some more advice.

I would weld a 1/8 round plate on the bottom of the stock arm to double the steel so that it supports the load better

Pro Tour,
Have you guys ever modified the stock subframe spring pocket to take a 5" coilver unit in place of the stock spring and shock? I 've heard of that being done and actually working better that the stock setup (talk in the pits- not sure how reliable that story is).

the 5" coil over set up is used for circle track deals you need to cut out the shock mount ing and make a new ataching poit for a heim joint that set up is to fit rules there is no advantage over 2-2.5 coil overs
