Default Paint removal from chrome

Previous owner of my 1973 Ventura repainted the car Burma Brown. In the process parts of the chrome trim were painted over.

What is the best way to remove the paint and keep the pieces intact?

Some fine steel wool and a little windex or water in a spray bottle always works good for me.

Looks like lacquer thinner is the winner.

Thanks to all for the information.

Use the same stuff your wife girlfriend or misstress uses. Acetone for fingernail polish works great , if she does not holler neither will your chrome, by the way that is what i use.

Be careful with the acetone- it will eat almost all plastics.

I've used aircraft stripper in the aerosol can. Don't spray it on the vehicle....Just spray it on a rag and wipe the chrome being careful to keep it on the chrome or glass that you want to clean. It comes off almost like wiping dust after you let it sit for 10 or 15 seconds.
Wipe the residue off with a damp rag.

assuming the previous guy did not rough up the chrome surface in order for the paint to stick, any solvent will work, but chrome polish is the best. it will have solvent in it to remove tarnish (paint) and mild ahbrasives to help rub off the paint. if the chrome was roughened for the paint, then all is lost, as the chrome will never look right again.
