By that I meant chrome diecast RAM AIR emblems on the hood.

1986 price to me was 10,500. Don't know what amount actually bought it back then. Last saw Car about 4-5 years ago.

I wanted the other 68 400 Vert he had during that same time. An unrestored all original 400 Triple Teal/Blueish shade. Automatic, fully optioned to the dam holy hilt. Bird glass, delx int, cruise, a-c, tilt, gauges, power everything, original colorkey factory floor mats still nice. $8,500. Felt like it was about 1.5-2k over the line also. No clue where it went. Only needed a repaint to be pristine. Sold fast. Didn't cry, wanted to, still whimper some. That bicht was gorgeous.

Now I'm gonna looky at what fastway posted for us.

Guys,

As an FYI:

Regarding my '68 RAI 4-spd FB (Dec '67 build date), the PHS does not show a breakdown on specific option prices (as the '69 and later PHS docs do). The "Billing History" card does show an "Invoice Amount" for this vehicle, and knowing the options that came on this car, it shouldn't be too difficult to determine what the cost of the RA I option was, given the fact that the option prices were fairly well known. If anyone is interested in this information, I'd be more than happy to provide it, even though it appears that this info has already been supplied by member "fastwayfirebird400".

Baron, mine has a lot of options on it - this may take a while.

When I PHS'd mine years ago, all I got from Fred was a hand written note on the cover page that said "Nice Car!" I bought it not knowing the difference but found the II motor (now motors) for it so I decided long ago, that's how I'd build it.

Head casting update - I've found a set of C288 heads, trying to get pictures to confirm.

BlkBrd, my personal thanks to you for combining data and wisdom - and providing the kind of answer I was hoping for. Hopefully I will be able to benefit from it personally someday. At minimum I can share it with others. Doing the math from base price up through the optional eqpt should provide the most accurate verdict, since an invoice total is supplied on BHC, as you state. Excellent.

FYI, my 60 ft. on the 12.100-114.97 MPH run at VMP was 1.891. The 330 ft. was 5.11 and the 1/8 ET was 7.81 at 91.03 MPH. This is my best 60 ft. and ET/MPH on the repo redlines so far.

Boss, I was laughing at myself for getting too anxious over your results.

I don't have that type literature myself either. My #1 local source doesn't own any 68's or their memorabilia. But he has all other sales manuals from 66-70.

Firebird owners who want to reverse their math :
I did find this link to sales manual for 68 just now on a google search. But only the Firebird pages are made functional. It's on the FirstGenFbird website.

What is the date on the POP? Looks like it might be 4/2x/68...I wonder what the build date is/was...could this car predate the 4/29 price change?

Jim,

I don't know when you made that run but the air density altitude was good but not great at VMP. Believe it or not the Density altitude at Stanton Saturday (PSMCDR ) was 142ft. I'm thinking what your thinking, I wish Stanton would spray the track better on the first 330. Great time slip Jim!
