Spotted this last nite at wallyworld.......refreshing to see that people are still running errands in these cars....  Pretty clean 71....VN build.......met the owner...really nice guy....

If any of the HO gurus can weigh in, appreciated. What would be average fair retail you personally would pay for top end parts for 71: heads, intake, crossover. Heads is loaded question I know, range from fresh done to cores no parts, so say good shape cores with all parts for example. Trying to figure market on what is middle range deal to high retail (such as some ebay buy it now ads). Thanks.

The 191 heads: I personally wouldn't buy a set of bare heads off ebay or anywhere else unless it was from someone I knew well. I am very suspect of bare heads. If you took time to tear them down, why didn't you build them back to ready. If you have a fresh complete set that are ready to bolt on with premium valves, springs, etc.... those were bringing $1500 - $2000 depending on how good of shape they are in. Most people who sell fresh heads can and will provide receipts from the machine shop work attesting to the parts used and show proof that the heads were magnafluxed and pressure tested. Nobody I know buys bare heads from an unknown source, least not me. I would get them checked out at a good speed shop and assembled with premium parts before I would try to sell them. Most shops will not rebuild a bad set of cores. If they are rebuildable, you will sell them more easily, and make more money if you do. The Intake & crossover: If there is no damage or signs of repairs and all the bolt threads are in good shape or have been repaired with heli-coils, I'm guessing about $800-$1,000 for the matching pair. $2300-$3000 on average if everything is pristine with no hidden surprises. Nasty or Rusty wont sell for much. Hope this is what you wanted to hear. Eddie

I noticed after all these years my 71 HO dipstick non ac is different from my 72.
Anyone know if one is right for each year or none?

I'd say the 'Use SE oil' would be correct.
The SE oil designation started in 1972 Model year. (1971 didn't have that designation) EDIT: The SE stick is for 1972, the other is for older engine. Thought you were asking about a 72 engine.

Here is a discussion from earlier. I would bet the SE would be the later 'stick. Any have ones marked 6 QTS? The part numbers for the A/C oil rod indicators in '71 were 483765 for F-body and '766 for A-body, '72 was 9793341. Non-A/C used 9793342 for both years. |
