Keep plugging away. Even if you don't get the car done for the nats at least it will be closer to being together than it is today. I would come and also give you a hand but my plate is full. One piece of advise I usually put my starter and manifolds on before I put the motor in. Since your core support is off I would mount my rad and fan shroud to it and mount it as one piece. Good luck

The next thing that's coming off is the subframe. I've done this so many times it makes me sick. My one blue car has been of the road for 9 years now.

Has anyone here done a roller HO??? Info on results if so..... Would you HO guru's expect what from that build? I am hearing on a performance cam you can bet better idle with roller over old style. Along with HP better. Imaginary balanced HO with good forged pistons, stock 71 heads / intake, RA exhaust.... what bang for buck might one expect HP wise going roller over stock? HP potential gain? I know grind determines.... this for street decent mannered driving engine to maximize HP in 0-5500 band. Want as big power in street band as possible and still drive decently idle..... run AC / auto tranny 3.23....... winter build planning.... THX

Bird72,
Dan built the numbers matching 455 HO for Darrell Davidson's '71 Judge tha basically followed the Pure Stock Drag rules with the exception of a roller cam with roller rockers, so Darrell doesn't have to worry about ZDDP heavy oils. The heads, intake / exhaust manifolds, and 800 cfm Q-jet (7041273) are all factory, no gasket matching or clean-up, 9.5:1 compression with forged rods and pistons, factory crank and dynoed at 475 hp and 575 lbft torque through the manifolds after a little tweaking. Darrell or Dan can comment further if I got some of the details wrong. It did surprise us with the big numbers. I can't recall the specs on the cam, but, I believe they were around 230/240 @ 0.050" and 0.530" lift ground on a 112 LSA. This motor made a clean 50 hp and 50 lbft torque more than the pure stock 455 HO's with the 068 HFT cam. Dennis |

I've had mine back in the car for a few months and could not be happier with how it performs. All forged lower like Rocky's but small domes to bring the compression to 9.8 to 1. The cam is a solid roller, 4/7 swap .582 lift 243/[email protected] 112 lsa with H.S. 1.5 rockers. The heads were ported previously so we left the ports alone and concentrated on the most accurate valve job possible. I couldn't say how much hp or tq but flooring it in third at 60 mph will spin the tires.

I forgot to mention this is with the 2.5 outlet manifolds and pypes crossflow exhaust. It is still very street and actually gets a little better mpg.

Brewster, here's a pic that may be helpful. Note the cylinder numbers are stamped on each plug wire.

Okay, that makes sense and a good possibility. Will check it out this weekend and post the result. Sure gets frustrating at times.

We have built 2 numbers matching 72 HOs recently. These were machined and prepared to OEM specs except for valve seat angles, hyd flat tappet cam timing (230/240) and 1.65:1 stamped rocker ratio. 435-462 hp and 555 TA. No port work or gasket match needed. Both very nicely restored. The difference we concluded was in the carb...one was that much better. Stock jetting in both. The torque and power are in there with a few smart parts choices. Good luck.

Not really the place for this but they don't speak of ebay cars on the 67-69 tech so. Did anyone else see the one of eight trans am verts on ebay with a non original ram4 engine! Looks pretty sweet! seems legit D80 code and PHS.
