2many - no way - purple wires are for squares - i gots me some lime green action!
and triple gold chrome plated anodized ceramic-coated air cleaner element, too.
all THREE monster tachs are doule-sided taped to the back of my hood and are plated and coated like the air cleaner element is to match.
combined with a polished, wrinkle-painted chrome satin Corvair water pump on a custom, engine-turned stainless powdercoated timing cover and i'm UNTOUCHABLE at car shows!
i bring a cot so all the chicks lining up have a place to jump me; i gotta eat like 23 viagras as the show goes on just to keep up.

banter aside, no, i don't at all NEED iron roundports, nor did i call them junk; it's no mystery or secret they work, and i didn't fall off the truck yesterday; quite the opposite - i was brought up into pontiacs by three very significant guys - truman fields, chuck roberts and ronnie johnson, so i got a serious head start in this, very luckily for me.
i do believe you took offense at a generalized comment that explains my own, personal feelings, and cast nothing negative at the resto guys.
in addition, if you think pontiacs got as strong as they did by virtue of anything but hot rodders taking stuff and modifying it so it worked better you're mistaken - and same for any other brand - racing improves parts and engineering, period.
further, as i clearly stated, the car IS a clone.
this is same as phony or fake.
it's not ever going to be worth what a real one is, and because of that and that by nature of being a clone, it's already been very substantially altered from stock - so why shouldn't i make it fast?
what if i wanna paint it pink and glue blue dildos all over it?
it's my car and i can screw it up any way i please.

we have a 67 'vette; believe me, you think poncho guys are bad when it comes to indignation when modding a stocker comes up, the vette guys make you all look like pygmy kittens - they're freakin' RABID.

bottom line, to each their own - who am i (or you) to judge someone else's choices?
i've seen, in my years owning the shop, people do the absolute stupidest, most pointless sh!t i've ever seen in my life to their vehicles - but it made them happy, so it works for them no matter what i or anyone else thinks.

I'd be glad to help you but my heads are not on a motor right now.
How about calling Nunzi? He has probebly has seen more of these
round port motors than any one, he probely has the specs memorized.
I know I know - your a speed shop & he's a speed shop maybe he could help though.

You keep wanting a cylinder compression number?I assume you are having some problems .. Why don't you just run a leak down test, that will tell you if everything is sealed up correctly or not.. Last compression I ran was in the high 180's, that was a motor I had just rebuild, using SpeedPros' gapless rings , which will produce a bit more pressure.. Still, if I though I was having problems, I would run the leak down test, will give you a more accurate diagnosis...

lloyd, it is indeed gutless in the extreme; doesnt start rolling till 3500 rpm and even then it's not strong.
i did a quick leakdown on 2 holes; very acceptable 13% leakage.
the motor's mechanically sound; it's all in the cam in my opinion which is why i'm trying to see what a stocker HO or SD does prior to diving in to it - am trying to figure out in advance if it's stabbed in wrong or just too big; nunzi's small stick is only 230ish @ 050 and 10 degrees more on exhaust, but i can't find LSA or intake opening points published anywhere.
yes, throttle at WOT for test with battery charger on while cranking.
still looking for actual results from someone please, and thanks for the replies so far.

I've never been a fan/advocate of revving the engine like that (unloaded).

You can see how WRONG the color is on the repro seat covers & carpet.
Looks like they painted the dash/doorpanels,etc.(which look closer to correct color)

Wonder if there will be any bidders. Market seems real soft right now to me.

yup, juice flat cam.
i use rhoads in nearly everything i build, my 81 TA 455 has them; i didnt do this motor, though; bought it as it is.
just hung up with nunzi; he tells me the cam's on 113 LSA...but also mentioned there's two different grinds he uses with the same part # (odd...)and i don't know what the cam is regardless; it might not even be his small one.

How do you know how thick your head gasket will be after you torque it? Should I have asked for a specific thickness, cc's, volume, etc? I just wanted to calculate my C.R. I cc'd my heads and they are 105 (originally 111cc's, cut .030"). Just guessing that my gasket squeezed to .035" I calculated my C.R. to be 8.9:1 based on the following: 4.18" bore, 4.21" stroke, 105 cc's heads, .001" deck (almost zero deck), 6 cc's (estimate) valve reliefs and head gasket at .035".Thanks, Eddie

Often, there are voids where the gasket doesn't exist between the machined surfaces of the head and the deck. You can use feeler gauges to measure.

Thanks a lot Mike and Gregg for the responses. I really felt dumb after seeing what Gregg was talking about with the nooks and crannies where you can put a feeler or a wire gauge between the head and the block. Why didn't I think of that? I went back out to the garage and checked it.....040"...not .035", back to the drawing board. Thanks a lot Gregg, I learned something. That's always a plus. Thanks again to both of you. Mike, I'll PM ya just to see what it should be according to part number.
