Super Duty Bob I think the HO contestants can beat you on the "value food chain" also. HO's are a better value and B last time I checked 455 HO Judge Converts are clearly trumping SD's in value by double. Not to mention regular Judge HO's do not come cheaply either. Mr. Christenholz and others can explain if need be.

Secondly RA IV cars trump SD's in value also. Plus any RA IV T/A makes your SD's look rather common place.

Now to defend the honor as it is of our fellow Pontiac lovers that just so happen to "not" drive SD's... Mr. Paul Aragona regularly thrashes his SD in front of PS fans several times a year. And on Tuesday I will have Mr. Aragona's new SD motor on the dyno with Dan. SD lovers rejoice as we left little to be had in this build. If an honest SD has a chance at chasing a HO down the track from closer than a ZIP code away it will be this one I hope.

The best thing Pontiac did was supply the thristy roundport fans plenty of variety. Also, keeping them very exclusive, and in some cases within reach. I have to agree it a a healthy roundport family, and still a collectors dream engine depending on your taste.

To start the dragracing musclecar roundport craze with the FB, GTO in vert and ht with the RA II for 68, and next year offer a FB, TA, GTO, Judge with the RA IV. Even with the rare verts for FB, GTO, and Judge only. Then in 70 offering the RA IV in TA, GTO, and Judge only with a again a few verts in GTO's an Judges. Then in 71 offering a full menu with LeMans, T-37, GT-37, GTO, Judge, Formulas, and all TA's with the 455 HO. With a LeMans, GTO, and Judge in rare vert form. Then they started to scale back in 72 offering the 455 HO again in all TA, some Formulas, and LeMans both HT and verts, and only in HT GTOs. Lastly, closing the craze with the SD TA, and Formulas for 73 and 74 as the last hoo-rah.

Which is the best? Who cares? If you got one drive it!

I sure wish I could one of each but reality dictates otherwise.

We all love our round port motors, and I would really like to have one of each, an H.O. & S.D..... It's all in good fun, as the they say. Just wanted to stirr the pot a little, as even I was surprized to find out how well an H.O. car performs against athe "coveted" S.D. cars. One of my best friends has a 73 S.D. 4 speed, and I guess I have been poking him about this since I came to this thread.....Just for fun of course! He wishes he had the level of "finish" of a 70-72 car in his 73, as the interior is inferior to the real stiching ect...but that is not the way they made them in 73. We all have our prefference's and most importantly, we all enjoy Pontiacs....thats why we are here! Kirk

Hi, I first thought that Linda was a worker at the Norwood plant. I got my first '71 back in '82. It was a silver 350 2 barrel with black deluxe interior. I still have the interior. It was a Norwood car and all original. It had a "Linda dash" in it. The '71 in the Nov '08 issue of HHP states that it's a Van Nuys car and that the dash had never been out of the car. Where were the dashes themselves made?

Yes, the SD vs HO discussion... I recall the only time I went to the TA Nat's 3-4 years ago. My only interest was in the early 2nd gen cars. Boy was I disapointed. There must have been 10-12 SD's and two 70 RAlll Formulas and one '71 HO. Yes, that many SD's sort of took the mistique out of them, for me anyway. It sort of became,to use Dicks term,a dime a dozen... LOL just having fun here guys..

All I can say is "Long live the round port motor!!!" I've used to own an SD, now own an HO, and love both (no matter the body style)!!!! Like everyone else, I with I had the funds to buy more. You will see me buried in my HO someday - I will NEVER sell it! No matter the price! Just too cool to drive!

Wow! Great debate going on - thanks to the SD guys for keeping it all in good fun as I intended. I just finished washing an waxing my HO car and I'm sitting here at the office on a Saturday afternoon drinking a beer and enjoying all these posts. My sons are out in the shop putting the finishing touches on the car, picking up the cleaning supplies, rolling up the extension cords, and life is good! I think I'll go get the wife and take her out for a spin in the GTO and have a nice steak!

It has been alot of fun for a relative new-commer like my self,

And, it was a refresher on my debate/diplomatic relations skills that need a bit of dusting off now and then. I hope that the guys at both forums will see the day when an SD car is in the top ten with the other round ports and "brand X" cars. And I am about to make hotel reservations, and be at the "big one" in Stanton Michigan. I hope I get to meet some of you guys there as well!

Just had a big Iowa corn fed steak and some JUMBO shrimp on the side....and a ice cold beer that may very well have been made with corn that I raised! Life is good....

Most of all I hope that Mr Mark Wheymouth does not mind that I used him as a source of my information for alot of my posts at the SD forum. I hope he finds that I used good judgment in the way it was presented.....

Now to decide witch car to drive, T/A? Corvette? Chrysler 300?........ Kirk

I saw this article and you are right, a very nice T/A restored by its original owner. Cool about the girl signing it - has she signed others also? It would be really neat to track her down now wouldn't it?

Do a search on "Linda" signed cars, and if you search it right you will find that many T/a owners here have found her signiture. It is visible if you remove the glove compartment, at the lower edge of the dash frame. I have been looking at that signiture for 31 years or so and because of it's location and I thought it was neat and I have left it alone. Turns out she reeealy got around! She signed quite a few in her day. One of the posts points out that today, if alive she would be getting up in years, Do the math and it is right. Kinda cool......Best regards, Kirk

As I understand it,ALL 1970-77 Firebird & T/A dash pads were made in Canada,and that would be my take as to where they "signed".

That would explain them being signed in cars built in BOTH plants.

In the dash signature thread,I added a picture of a "Carol" signed dash that was pulled from a 1970 Norwood T/A about 25 years ago & recently,another contributer here, Goathead455 advised me that he had found another "Carol" signature recently in a 71 that he was taking apart.

I heard a rumor a couple days ago that a certain SD motor was dyno'ed. Look out HO's !
