So, no M20 or M21 option in 72? Just auto or the Rock Crusher with the HO?

SDD
Thats right!

ALL 71 & 72 T/A's with mandatory 455 HO came with M22 or M40.

But in the 72 Formula 455HO, is that the same trans option?

Who put that decal on the air cleaner lid? That's a GTO only feature!

That decal is correct for a 72 455 H.O. Formula too.

Jeff - that decal was the subject of a lot of discussion at the Nationals when the car was there (both times). I thought that the decal was correct for Formulas as well as GTOs but others said no, Dan Jensen included. I did ask John Sawruk last year (before he died RIP) and he asked a number of former colleagues and his/their answer was that the Formula did not get the decal ("I think"). Do you have something that shows it is correct?

Hey, which ugly legs do you mean (Sara might not like that comment about her legs)?? That guy in the blue shirt is a stud though!

Man, that looks like my old neighbor's car. I'm sure it not though, we had it out in the snow the other day and kinda had a little accident...

By the way, the decal was on the lid when he got it!

I owned a 72 formula 455 M22 back in the 70's. It had the sticker when I bought it from the original owner. I don't know for sure because I didn't think to ask that at the time but, I believe it came that way or it was added at a very young age. The sticker was aged with the rest of the car.

I talked to one of the previous owners of my car about the HO stickers. He bought a one owner '71 455HO 4 speed Formula in approx. '76, said it had 90,000 miles and the engine bay was grease covered and untouched and it had an original HO sticker on the lid. This guy has had a very impressive collection of 455HO cars over the last 30+ years so I put some weight in his story and his opinion.
I realize that's not proof the factory used the sticker but even if they didn't, I would bet some of them got added as soon as the dealer saw the factory's "error"

Sounds like the world will never know ?

Leave the decal until you (if ever) can confirm it either way. It will always be a conversation piece to true HO guys and the rest will just appreciate it for what it is.

The White Cooler is getting ready for a road trip?
