71 HO Quadrajets DID NOT use the rubber boot. That was discontinued starting 1971 model year. So your carb is correct without it. On Firebirds, seems the manual tranny cars used teh solenoid, and auto didn't.. this is from memory, so could be wrong.. don't have time to look it up..

Go to craigslist....michigan....detroit. Search "trans am" Its an unrestored 72 Luc. blue 4 spd matching numbers car. Needs total resto, but might be solid. Asking price seems a bit high? What do you guys think?

I like it but I would prefer an SD-455 version better. I have a couple of your Round Port Racing shirts which get a lot of comments.

Looks GOOD!
Can you change out the red for a light blue (as a variation)? Adding "the FASTER round port 455" below your logo would certainly stimulate sales/interest. |

i could be compeletly wrong here, but, haven't I've been hearing negative reactions when somebody puts that 455 HO 'image' as a sticker on their airfilter on their 455 H.O that it's wrong as it's a buick one, not pontiac?
then why make a shirt out of it if its not pontiac??  nevertheless, I do like it though.....great work |

The 455 HO sticker on a 71-72 455 HO car is totally correct. Pure Pontiac!

but like I mentioned, looks cool.... (i'm not into clothing with car/bike brands on it, but it sure looks great! logo would be great as a poster too) |

Getting closer..
I mentioned a while back that I am helping my buddy get his '71 GTO put together for the Pure Stock Drags in September. Should finally get that bad 455 HO in this weekend

Can someone tell me how to remove the brads that hold the heat crossover pan on the 488945 intake manifold? There are two on the bottom bradded to the manifold and one on top that is bradded to the crossover. I'd like to separate the parts for cleaning prior to reinstalling.
Secondly, when going back together, does everything get painted blue, top and bottom of manifold, including the crossover and light gauge metal retainer parts? These look like they were black. I don't know if these parts have been fooled with before and since the manifold is not painted maybe so, they could have been painted in a previous restoration. I'm fairly certain the engines were painted after assembly, so if that's the case there probably wasn't a lot of paint under the manifold. Any pictures of documented original teardowns would be great. Thank you.
