Do all flowmaster mufflers have that rapping sound on acceleration? I just fitted a 40 series, & a 50 series muffler, they both have the loud rap sound when the engine is revved. Only difference I could tell was the 50 series was quieter on low RPM's if I don't step on it much. Rev it up, & they both sound the same.
What other designs are out there? Not sure if I like they sound of these. 68RT

You can try the dynomax super turbo or ultra turbo. If you go to their site I believe they have sound clips of their mufflers you can listen to.
Below my signature is a youtube link of my car. I have the super turbos on it by my engine is bit more built than yours and I am running 3" exhaust, but feel free to listen to it. Sound comes in on the video around the "2:43" time mark if you want to skip to the sound. Jim Hand also did some muffler testing in HPP magazine title "Silent Power" his testing shows the dynomax super turbo to be at 81 decibels, Flowmaster was showing 90, and open exhaust was showing 95. This was tested on Jim Hands Wagon. Mark

This is for a different car than any in my avitar. This is a custom built system with two 2-1/4" leading into a single 3" with a single muffler in the rear behind the axle. The problem is I am limited to around a 15" body length. offset 3" in with dual 2-1/2" outs.
probably not many choices? Here's pretty much with what I am stuck with for I/O's

Yeah, thats gonna be a hard one to come by. I think Magnaflow makes one like that for thier crossflow F car applications. I've heard magnaflows on 3rd gen Camaros and I thought they sounded like a dumptruck. I really don't care for crossflows at all and honestly that is why Im not gonna buy a turbo 2nd gen T/A because that is all you can put on one. Flowmaster makes the new Super 44 in that setup but its gonna be way louder than any other thing they offer.

I'm running 2 chamber Flowmasters with a 2.5 inch exhaust system.
I had an "H" pipe added to balance sound. It sounds nice. No complaints. Recently added Doug's electric cutouts behind the Ram Air IV manifolds. It is cool to be able to flick the toggle switch an go from mufflers to open headers!

I forgot to mention, this isn't a crossflow application. The dual outs are on the same end. But maybe the same sound as one? Last night I found the the holley brand "afterburner" muffler, has the same configuration. Pretty inexpensive, only $58.00 Not sure how good it is.

Yeah, I think I know what you are doing. Its what Im going to eventually do on my GTA. Magnaflow makes a system like this for 4th gen F cars. The Super 44 could be used the same way. You have the over axle pipe on the inlet side then 2 outlets on same side but one wraps back around the muffler to exit on the inlet side.
![]() I want to use this Super 44 and have my exhaust guy build the system.

And to add, the same side outlet mufflers sound NOTHING like a crossflow. I despise the sound of the generic 80 series crossflow on 2nd and 3rd gen cars which is I went with a single outlet 3" Super 44 on my GTA. Sounds alot like a '97 Mustang Cobra

Thanks, that is the exact same muffler I am using. I think the super 44 is one of the loud ones? isn't it?
I just permanantly wended in the tail pipes, so I'll be sticking with the 40 delta for now. Now I just with I could figure out a better clamp on the 3" side. a band clamp won't fit, & I really don't want to crush down the pipe with a traditional u-clamp. I will want to take it apart again someday. 68Rt
