Default '64 GTO powered by "twin T-22-A Thrust engines"

Note the page caption, "AUTO JATO,'" and the following:
"The same type JATO (Jet Assisted Takeoff) kits that give aircraft short term, super performance is also applicable to automotive use."

Most of us have, at one time or another, heard the urban legend about the friend of a friend of a friend who stole a JATO motor from an Air Force base, strapped it on an Impala and ran it into a cliff side at 300 mph. If you've ever wondered where that story originally came from, here you go.

here's a couple of the last pics of the "brutus" GTO at irwindale, it crashed that day, it was repaired and sold shortly after, it's whereabouts are unknown, although the guy who took these pictures claims he saw the car being bracket raced in the early 70's in the upper northwest. wouldn't this be a cool barn find!! it may still be out there somewhere?

Mostly drag cars on here, but here's some local old stock cars that ran in this area.

Jerry, I think that car has been recovered and restored, (minus the lettering) have an article on it from 10+ years ago in a musclecar mag. don't know who currently owns it though. I'll see if I can find it.

if you have a scanner, scan the page, then if you need to, you can "crop" and enlarge the picture and single it out, then add it to the pictures on your computer

Tad, are you going to run your car at the track this year to see what it will do? Wasn't these some nostalgic drag races coming around soon? Bill

Bill,
The Mid American Dragway in Arkansas City, KS is having a nogstalgic weekend at the end of September. This would be a homecoming of sorts for Old Injun, this track would be one of the closest to where it was from.

If I still own it , I intend to run to race it at the old track. Meating or beating the 14.1 time with todays rubber and track prep shouldn't be that hard.

Tad

Never tried a digital pic of a magazine page, but scanning the page into the computer works.

Anyone know anything about this one? Notice the Tempest grill and the oddball front bumper.

That "oddball" front bumper appears to be from a '63 Tempest.

Here's a couple of Mickey Thompson working on his Pontiac powered front engine dragster. Someone posted these over on the H.A.M.B..

Thanks for the great photos of Mickey.
Interesting- the dragster engine's zoomies appear to have [at least] three bolts for the center pair of ports!

Default WHAT???

Pontiac Jack I second that, whats up with those cylinder heads??? are those early prototype round ports?

Did anyone else notice that. Just when I thought I've seen or heard about everything Pontiac exotic I stumble across this picture.

I guess it's possible that it has the plates that Mickey used to sell for the exhaust face of Pontiac heads. But the whole point of those plates was to allow milling the exhaust side of the heads to remove some of the nasty U-bend in the ports. The heads in the photo don't appear to be milled, though?
