Did anyone here meet or talk to JIM CHRISTENSEN who bought one of MT's 63 421SD Tempests. The car ruled the street's of SO CAL around 1965.

I met Jim Christianson in 95 at the Tiger Run in Oregon. Real sweetheart of a guy. He also came down and spent Memorial Day Weekend in 96 at my mom's house to hang out and talk.. what else..but his 1963 Super Duty LeMans Coupe!! Funny story he told me about a guy in his Vette had come upon Jim & ALOT of other kids hanging out & starting talking trash about his Vette being the fastest etc.etc.. So, from what I remember Jim told the guy to put up or shutup and then meetup at this certain place to street race. So the guy takes off ahead of Jim . He has this fine girl thats in the car with him & so Jim proceeds to fire the LeMans up and drive over to where they were going to race. So Jim pulls up in the Super Duty and the guys almost sh*ts himself because this LeMans is making a helluva lot more noise than it should. So than the guy starts to back down but everyone is out there now to watch this vette blow the little white Pontiac outta the weeds. To make a long story short, Jim beat him sooo bad that the girl this guy had with him got into a fight over it and Jim wound up taking her with him after the race. He dated her for a couple of years I think after that. Pics are of Jim & Me in 1995 at Tiger Run in Oregon & his autograph in Pete McCarthy's book in 1996 -Don

Here are some more present day shots of the Gray Ghost's archaic underpinnings, imagine running 8 second times with this. Can you say hold on to your butt????? The drivers of these must have had balls of steel racing these beasts.
Pretty rough, all there but engine/trans. Check out the spindle mount wheels real magnesium as are the rear slots. |

What's with the two pieces of steel welded to the top of the banjo housing? It looks like they decided to eliminate rear suspension at some point in time? I can't see that the tops of the pieces are attached to the chassis cross-tube, but they appear to be right up tight against it.

I thought it might be fun to do a tribute to Dick Jesse's '65 "Mr Unswitchable", but when I saw some of the workmanship (ie, spacing the body up with stacks of washers, etc) I thought I would stick with more modern technology... K
