Default How rare/collectable

I just bought a 1981 5.0 4spd car original paint code 57 "orange metallic"

I don't remember ever seeing one this color in person.

It's probably one of the more interesting colors that were available that year.
I've seen a number of them over the years.
For some reason, most 81 T/A's seem to be black, white or brown.

I have never seen one before but it is a really cool color. I love the unique color T/A's. What kind of shape is it in. Any pictures?

Sometime around 1990 I had an 80 or 81 (can't quite recall) Trans Am that was this same dark orange color. I referred to it as copper. It had the gold hood bird, camel tan interior and gold 15x8 snowflake wheels. It had the non turbo 301 engine. That car was awsome and very clean (absolutely no rust or dents). I ended up putting a set of Cragar SST wheels on it and then sold it to some young mexican kid who beat the hell out of it. I then used the money from the sale to purchase a 1985 T/A GTA that was the same "burnt orange" color. I miss both of those cars!

Well I just got the car last night...could find some remnants of the original color in the trunk. I was planning on painting this thing black but am toying with going back with the original color since I don't believe there are too many that color. I did see Jay Leno has an '81 Turbo that same color.

Funny thing, the owner told me it had about 120k miles on it...the odometer reads 75,000 and considering the car was bought in Boise Idaho new which is where I purchased it from and the condition of the interior I think the mileage is original.
