The last time I recall a 73 SD on BJ was in 1991 and it did not make reserve. Isnt that really a mopar thing?
I never liked that auction due to all the bad news you hear about from owners listing there cars. Sounds like a big scam to me!
Just my opinion,
Brewster

back to the mirrors question. when i looked at mine, i was initially just looking for the "objects may be closer ..." taking another look tonight, mine have 6-DMI-3 on the passenger and 12-DMI-2 on the driver's side. tiny etching, never noticed it before. i have a much nicer pair that i intend to put on the car when i paint it, i'll have to unpack and take a look at them one of these days.

Thanks! It sounds like a date code.

Yeah, cool huh!
If you have any extra glass with the date codes let me know since I'd change my 4-speeds
in order to continue to improve that car.
Thanks ahead of time,
Brew

I almost got a correctly code piece of glass out of the junk yard yesterday. Those are tuff to pull without breaking! I had to settle for a later piece.

OK, I checked my 73 and they are the same as Brewster's #'s;
Driver side: 12-DMI-2
Pass side: 2-DMI-3

If these are date codes what dose the decoder ring say?
Guess: 12/72 & 2/73??????

My car is late Aug. Brewster's are end of June (28th.) almost two months apart. Shouldn’t our #'s be different if they are in fact a date code?

Duane, what you got? I know we just got 6 more inches if snow, but unless your still drunk GO CHECK!

SDD, thanks for confirming those numbers.

Here are a couple pictures of my nos hood latch that came with the car when I purchased it. I just couldn't bring myself to change it, until today!
Went like clock work and without a scratch.

What are you trying to say? You mean you don't see a date code on that core support either?
Maybe it’s that new hood latch, it’s so shinny I guess I can’t see it cause of the glare.

I mean Brewster's car just keeps getting better. It's the little things that make the difference.... But now that you mention it, we may have to look for that date code.

More on OSRV mirrors. Of the four OS mirrors on my two 74 FB's only the drivers side mirror on the Nov 73 car has a date code & none of them have the caution on the passenger side mirror. The code is 2 DMI 2, kind of an early date for a 74 car?? The DMI stands for Donnelly Mirror Inc. They made a lot of the GM mirrors. I google'd their name and found a site (not sure if it was there official site) that has, what they claim to be OEM mirror glass, with & without the caution warning. They seem real pricy for what I think is the same glass as Pep Boys & others sell at a much lower price. But maybe they will etch the xx DMI xx codes, to make your mirror as original as possible. Like auto glass date coding. Just a thought!

I really don't see that there is a difference........

SD Formula, good call! thanks for the input.

D, they didnt have date codes on nos replacement core supports. If you can find a June date coded one I'll be happy to replace it in a heart beat.

Craig, there is no difference.

Brew, Here's a little piece on core supports. They must have made them in big batches. At least in mid 73. Both of my Norwood 74 FB's have the identical dates on the core support, Aug 11, 1973. One is an 11C (3rd wk. Nov.73) car, the other is a 02B (2nd wk. Feb. 74) car. The supports were made way before vehicle assembly.

SD Formula, thanks for the info.
My automatic car has a June date stamp and I was going by it since they where manufactured together at the same time.
Wish I knew someone that could stamp these things but since there is two pieces of steel on each other there is no support behind to accomplish that (that I know of)?

It would be a big job to replace the core support on a completed car but I would be interested if anyone had a June date stamped piece.

Brew, I just took a look at my best looking core support (it is off the car now). I don't know where or if, your core support is stamped. Is it part# 493474 & no date code, or nothing at all? Mine is stamped on the top drivers side & the top of the part# is 15/16" from the front edge of the support, with the date stamping below it (closer to the engine). The date stamping is, 1 1/4" inch from the same edge. The start of the part# (the 4) is 2 13/16" from the first drilled mounting hole that is to the right, on the front edge of the support. The numbers are up side down if you are looking at the support from in front of the car. I don't know if there was any GM spec. on where these number should be stamped. However, it appears that if YOU were stamping in this location there would be enough "double metal" to allow some support from the underside to be able to stamp it. There is from 2 1/8" to 2 1/2" of double metal at this location, & the thickness of the two spot welded pieces is about 3/32" (including powdercoat) with no variation from the edge to the depht I mentioned above.

I dont have enough experience in stamping to know what the limitations are thus the reason nothing has been done to my car.

Attached are two pictures of my auto car which show's part number and build date. There are spot welds with in a couple inch's of the location along with the Hood Latch & Spring (note second picture).

If there is someone out there that does this kind of work (stamping) or know someone who does please feel free to PM or list note it.

Thanks for any help either way, Brewster

Brew, The first thing I notice is that your part # is different than mine. 73 vs.74 I guess? The orientation of the numbers is the opposite of mine, but appear to be in approximately the same location. Is the core support in the pictures the one that you want to replace?
