Here's two more pics of the 2 +2 back under the carport "ready for bed" for the night, wearing a brand new NOAH car cover that I bought online recently from California car covers. It's the first time I put it on the car, and it fits snug and quite well.

Thanks Jerry H. ! I have a younger brother that lives in Thomasville. Thanks also to you wfbarto. I haven't been to TN since 1976 when I was attending Navy Aviation Electrician's Mate "A" school in Millington. I bought a '67 Lemans at Shelton Harrison Chevy's used car lot for $400.00. I drove it back to hometown Rochester, NY, then out here to my duty station: NAS Whidbey Island, WA.

click the post reply button or the go advanced button under the reply box. below the box will be a manage attachments button. once you click that a box will appear and at the top of the box will be a series of browse buttons. they will allow you to search your files for the photo you want to post. once you've found the file selecct the upload button and wait for the file to download. insert your text in the box and post away. just be sure your file fits the size limitations of the forums.

I have been a long time lurker and Ive posted a few times with very rookie questions so some of you might have seen my Bonneville already. Its a 64 with the 389, Auto and Carter carb. It has a posi rear end although I havent figured out what the gears are yet. Im pretty sure it is the original engine as the block stamp matched the PHS docs. The color is original but the paint job isnt. Saddle ext with saddle int.

The most pressing need is a new exhaust and I am probably going with a new dual RARE system. I am still trying to decide if I want to keep the stock manifolds or get RAREs long branch factory headers. Im kind of leaning towards getting the headers but I want to pull the motor, clean it up , and see what I have to work with first. I have some lifter knock on the passenger side so I am also thinking of getting the heads done but I need to avoid cost creep for a year or two if I can. I'd really like to have the motor redone from the ground up but I doubt I can do that this year. If anyone knows of a good rebuilder here in Cleveland let me know. I also might be interested in buying a second engine to learn on but it would have to be local and pretty cheap.

A lot of the people here have already given me a lot of info so thanks again for that.
I joined the North Coast POCI chapter here in Cleveland hoping to learn even more so if there are any other members here you'll see my car in person this year most likely.

John, That's a very nice Bonneville!

The Long Branch manifolds along with a nice 2-1/2" mandrel exhaust system is a good choice for your car. The rest of the factory parts are all good as far as performance goes. You will need to modify the crossmember a little but its no big deal.

With the Super Hydro, the lower the rear end (number wise) the better.

Thanks Jeff... you are one of the folks I watch pretty close only because we have the same ride and I know that most of the stuff you mention will eventually apply to my car as well.

I have been listening to any car nuts that I meet and it kinda makes me crazy how different car guys can be. I mentioned the headers to an old friend( + car restorer) of my mother in law and I thought the guy was going to slug me cause I was going to replace stock parts with newer stuff. I know his point in that the car is worth more if everything is 100% original. Do I really want to spend hundreds (pure guessing) restoring an old radiator if I can get a new Alum one that looks close and does the job better ?

I would not just toss the old parts I take off of this car but I also know that I am not in it for the $$ value of a pristine example that I could never drive. I want to enjoy driving it and I want to know that I wont get killed because it was STOCK and a stock part failed when a better part is available. ( single Master cylinder to dual for instance)
I guess the answer is what seems to be most of the people here have... cars that they like and a garage full of old parts that they cant quite make themselves get rid of... lol

John, You said "you want to enjoy driving it", and I feel the same way. Some people are happy just looking at there cars while others want them to run and handle well too.

That dual master cylinder swap is a piece of cake and the brakes stop better with it too.

Long Branch manifolds are factory manifolds.

I hear a lot of good things about aluminum radiators.

Its your ride brother, do with it as you please, after all, your the one paying the bills. If you ever need any help please feel free to contact me. I know almost every inch of the 64.

John, verrrry nice 64 Bonneville! Jeff is right...don't call them headers call them factory long branch manifolds. For my money they are the cat's rear end on these big cars...look great and perform great. Go for it! Fix her up the way you want... she's yours and its your money!

Days are slowly getting longer again - Hibernation time of my car is getting shorter, time to look at last seasons pictures and look forward to this year's.

Undergoing major technical work right now (Change to 455 Engine, RARE exhaust system, Mark7 Aluminum Radiator, new springs, frontend rebuild, Posi carrier transplantation...hopefully finished by beginning of spring...so many ideas so little time...
