Hey guys,

Names jack, I'm trying to get a 67 firebird that I found on craigslist, its in pretty ruff shape, but i'm up for the challenge as 67 firebirds and camaros are my dream car. is 1000 bucks too much for a ruff shape firebird, with no motor or tranny? I figured it was pretty fair, maybe I can talk him down some, but i'd have no problem paying 1000 for it. can a camaro front clip be used? not sure if i'd really do that, but i'm more partial to the camaro front end, if I get it, i'll prob build a 383 stroker for it, so please give me any details and info, thanks alot! already learned a bunch just from reading!

That looks like a $500 pile of parts to me.
I've adopted and restored 2 orphaned '68 firebirds and that one looks to be too much unless it is an original 400 or HO car.

soapbox time:

Do not disgrace the Firebird with a Camaro front clip. It will never be accepted in either group and will be a waste of your time and effort. A 400 Pontiac is as easy or easier to buy and install as a 383 Chebby.

If you get it, we will all be here to help you out, parts, advise, etc.

My 69 looked close to your pictures when I paid $750 for it in 2001. It had the motor and transmission, but not much else.

I agree with Boater Bill -- $500 and stick with Pontiac.

I wish I would have picked up that olds 455 I had a line on. I didn't really think it looked that bad, I don't want to offend the guy and say that its not worth 1000, but I will be trying to talk him down on it when I go look at it. if I could get it for 500 I would be very happy, Only reason i'd like to do the 383 is the fact that I already have the 350 in the garage, so it'd be easier to do that, then buy another motor, but we'll see what happens, i've been building a lifted K5 for quite awhile, but had to give up as the frame was bent and I found out after I pulled the body, so its time for something new. Thanks for the help guys! Hopefully i'll be joining the ranks of firebirds owners soon. Has anyone used the entire floor pan they sell on e-bay? was surfing for parts and saw it, looks like it'd be worth it.

I`d not pay $1000 for that....you can do better...$500-700 tops...but re the front clip...dont do a FireMaro...they are very hard to sell (seen some on EBay)...not accepted as either....you CAN get away with a Chevy engine in a bird ,even though its not well looked at...lol
but do not put Camaro body panels on a bird or vice versa...

I second that motion! WHY would you do that anyway? Aren't there enough Camaro's running around. Give the general public something pretty to look at! And BTW, $500 or walk away, the hood says that it's not a 400 car(and that would raise the price to $550). The 400 should look like this(see below). Good luck...

Go over there with $500 cash, tell him it's your best offer. If he doesn't take it, walk away, leave him your number.....he'll call back, doubt anyone is gonna offer more. If/when he calls back, says he'll take the $500, tell him you may have a "lead: on another one, offer him $400, see what happens.......and nice to meet ya, now I can say I know Jack!

Thanks for the greetings, and the info guys! My plan was to offer 500 cash when I go look at it, I really would like to get this car, I was just wondering if you could swap the front end, def wouldn't do it, as the front of the bird has already grown on me, i'll let you guys know how it goes, waiting to hear back from the guy with an address, but I have a job interview at 12 so I can have an income to put into the car if I get it

That thing is in pretty rough shape. I would gather up some more money and get something in better shape. Its going to save you money in the end.

That car is very rough and probably hiding a few major flaws. I'm with everyone else except for one thing...it already has a Camaro steering wheel so why not add the rest of the parts? TEE-HEE

Yeah, It def is a typical PA car, I'm going to do as stated, and go look at it, and offer 500 cash, and walk away if he won't take it, I just think this type of car will be hard to come by, so i'd like to take it if I have the chance. The car will get pretty much all new sheetmetal, so it doesn't really matter much to me. I do love the camaro front end, but I don't want a wanna be camaro, so it'll stay a firebird. thanks for the info guys!

EDIT: BTW what body parts from a camaro will fit, decklid? quarters? anything? Just for future know so, just so if I run into camaro parts I can know what will fit. From what i've seen mostly everything is the same.

not sure since I have a 69, but doors? maybe, if the crease lines up... trunk lid...not quarters unless you cut and weld in the shark gills...dorr gl;ass , but glass looks ok..it very little actually that fits from Camaro to Bird, even though they look very alike.....if you run across camaro parts you think you canuse ask here first! no use to buy parts to line the garage with....plus camaro partstend to be more $$ anyway...if bought used.

In '67 a lot of parts cross over...like almost the entire interior: console and shifter the same, steering column, instrument carrier, heater controls, radio glove box, etc. Out side, the doors and wing windows cross over, the rear deck lid..event he front fenders can be made to work.. Subframes, A arms, and if not worried about originality springs and rear axles,

would I bolt a Camaro clip on a Firebird body ...no way. but a lot of parts cross over.

Now in '69 it's a different ball of wax...virtually nothing translates

That car needs everything. Fortunately, everything is available. Either used or repop. The cheaper you pay for it, the more you have left to restore it. I would offer $400. It's not worth that much for scrap, and nobody else will pay that for it. Buy it cheap and then restore it. It will never see the road again unless you help it to. Build a Poncho, not a Chevy.

LOL! I knew one of us had one! Very nice car BTW, for a Camaro(I couldn't help but do it again!). I had an '86 once, 305 HO with a 5 spd. I got more tickets in that car than I have in any other...

Well if I do get the car, it will get new quarters, fenders, entire floor, trunk floor, trunk lid, frame rails, pretty much everything to make the shell solid and rust free. Reason I ask about the camaro parts, I figured the 67's were similar since on e-bay it says for pretty much all 67 parts, camaro and firebird. I found a trunk lid, rear spolier, ect for a 67 maro, so I figured they would fit. The guy is kinda going around and around, I e-mailed him 3 times asking for an address so I can go look at it, and he e-mailed me back and asked where I was located? oh well, hes just giving me more time to get the money together hah. BTW I got the job so I will now have an income to dump directly into the car.

the thing about the camaro trunk lid is it has different framework underneth so you cant put on the pontiac letters but if your going to use th spoiler for a camaro i guess you can use the camaro lid , exterior wise they are all the same.

Nah, that is the sport wheel from the 2nd gen...started in a Vega IIRC...available in Camaro as an option starting in 1971.

Hey, I just noticed that the right front rim is a Chevy Rallye...that cinches it! Turn it into a Firemaro (or a Cabird)

No reason you shouldn't do it again... I've never owned a third or fourth generation but I've lost my marbles when it comes to 1st gens (3 '69s, & 2 '67s - not to mention the ones that have passed through my hands) and I've started on 2nd gens again (a '70 and a '71). Of course, now I have a yearning for '70 TA ...4 speed in Lucerne Blue...I'm not asking for much...
