Found a 67 pontiac engine with no code on the front pad. date code near distributor is A107.
Is this more than likely a SR block ? The motor has 46 heads with a date code from 1969.
Owner says its suppose to be a 400
any help is appreciated

Try and find the part # near the rear edge of the block (near the distributor)
Usually a 979*** number. This will get you in the ballpark. Also, if you look in the lifter valley, between the lifters bores, you will see raised letters that help identify the cubic inch size. (IE '00' for 400, '55' for 455, etc. You will have to remove the intake and valley pan to see this area. Some engines also had the engine size on the sides of the block, near the motor mount holes.

He did give me the number in the back 9786133
From what I can find it should be a 67 400

I was just wasn't sure about it not having no code on the front, just about all the pontiac's I have seen had a code on the front of the block to designate what it was used in.
Just was wondering if anyone had run across this before. Im going to install it in my gto for awhile until i can run across a wt engine

You are correct that no code on the front usually means SR block. I would use it. The money you will spend finding a WT block would go a long way towards building the SR block. IMHO, A 'WT' block is no different than the SR block, only two letters stamped on the front. Externally, internally, visually, and functionally they are the same. If it does bother you, do like the Corvette guys and stamp WT on the front.

I feel the same way, both are equally the same to me, only way I would end up with the WT is if I found one that was affordable locally then I would more than likely just store it for future use.
