looking on nunzi's site, his smallest stick is 234/244@050 (we know it's a nunzi grind)
no quotes on LSA or IV open/close points though. i'm lookin at 110; way low and no potential to run strong till rectified. did you measure that 150 or just rough guessing? (not that i disagree but i need concrete info) if i were going to run a oem grind, it'd be a 744 (301/313 if i recall) but i won't be; i have a custom grind i use in 9:1 compression mills that pulls like a train from off idle to 5600 using rhoads lifters; it's my usual poncho combo, but it ain't gonna work in an 8:1 situation; i'd rather not pull the heads to cut 'em or i'll just bolt E-heads up and solve the issue plus all the good power and weight loss and have money to spare after selling off the HO stuff. so who wants to buy an intake, crossover, and 7F6 heads? all perfect, essentially. and probably the manifolds, too - repop's from RA with 2.5" outlets, with all the oem heat shields and related crapola. please spare me the keep it oem song and dance - the car's a clone and originality means zero to me - i own a speedshop, after all. if it's still stock it's broken in my world. thank you, mike

Maybe take your own advice & just toss all that "factory junk" (let me know your address & what day the G-men come by) & bolt on the Edeltork heads,Hooker headers & perhaps a roller cam? Or better yet,how about one of them new modern chevrolet "gto" engines. You should be able to sell a lot of parts for one of those. |

you just keep enjoying your slow-boat, old-man stock resto stuff.
i bet you sit in a lawn chair all day at drag races and car shows, talking about how good things were when you were young, too. wake me up when something exciting happens. i'll be busy enjoying driving instead of trying to get my hose clamps lined up just like the factory did. thanks for nothing.

jim, replied, thanks.
2many - no way - purple wires are for squares - i gots me some lime green action! and triple gold chrome plated anodized ceramic-coated air cleaner element, too. all THREE monster tachs are doule-sided taped to the back of my hood and are plated and coated like the air cleaner element is to match. combined with a polished, wrinkle-painted chrome satin Corvair water pump on a custom, engine-turned stainless powdercoated timing cover and i'm UNTOUCHABLE at car shows! i bring a cot so all the chicks lining up have a place to jump me; i gotta eat like 23 viagras as the show goes on just to keep up. so to speak. banter aside, no, i don't at all NEED iron roundports, nor did i call them junk; it's no mystery or secret they work, and i didn't fall off the truck yesterday; quite the opposite - i was brought up into pontiacs by three very significant guys - truman fields, chuck roberts and ronnie johnson, so i got a serious head start in this, very luckily for me. i do believe you took offense at a generalized comment that explains my own, personal feelings, and cast nothing negative at the resto guys. in addition, if you think pontiacs got as strong as they did by virtue of anything but hot rodders taking stuff and modifying it so it worked better you're mistaken - and same for any other brand - racing improves parts and engineering, period. further, as i clearly stated, the car IS a clone. this is same as phony or fake. it's not ever going to be worth what a real one is, and because of that and that by nature of being a clone, it's already been very substantially altered from stock - so why shouldn't i make it fast? what if i wanna paint it pink and glue blue dildos all over it? it's my car and i can screw it up any way i please. we have a 67 'vette; believe me, you think poncho guys are bad when it comes to indignation when modding a stocker comes up, the vette guys make you all look like pygmy kittens - they're freakin' RABID. bottom line, to each their own - who am i (or you) to judge someone else's choices? i've seen, in my years owning the shop, people do the absolute stupidest, most pointless sh!t i've ever seen in my life to their vehicles - but it made them happy, so it works for them no matter what i or anyone else thinks.

I know I know - your a speed shop & he's a speed shop maybe he could help though. If Nunzi cant help ya then your going to have to go to the real expert - call Rock & Roll Engineering PS Chocka Rules! Jason

You keep wanting a cylinder compression number?I assume you are having some problems .. Why don't you just run a leak down test, that will tell you if everything is sealed up correctly or not.. Last compression I ran was in the high 180's, that was a motor I had just rebuild, using SpeedPros' gapless rings , which will produce a bit more pressure.. Still, if I though I was having problems, I would run the leak down test, will give you a more accurate diagnosis...

A "tight" 068 cammed 455HO ought to make at least 140-150 PSI cranking. Unfortunately my GTO engine is tired, and has an 041 cam in it, so not a good comparison. My Formula engine is a 10:1 deal with a SMALL solid flat tappet cam, and it averages 215 PSI cranking! Did you block the throttle open when testing? Are the battery and starter in good shape and giving you a brisk cranking speed? All things to consider when running a cranking compression test. 110 PSI cranking compression would be a gutless PIG.

I am agreeing with LLoyd, 110 is messed up. Do a leak down, it will tell you if the rings or valves are leaking.. Sounds like something is leaking...

lloyd, it is indeed gutless in the extreme; doesnt start rolling till 3500 rpm and even then it's not strong.
i did a quick leakdown on 2 holes; very acceptable 13% leakage. the motor's mechanically sound; it's all in the cam in my opinion which is why i'm trying to see what a stocker HO or SD does prior to diving in to it - am trying to figure out in advance if it's stabbed in wrong or just too big; nunzi's small stick is only 230ish @ 050 and 10 degrees more on exhaust, but i can't find LSA or intake opening points published anywhere. yes, throttle at WOT for test with battery charger on while cranking. still looking for actual results from someone please, and thanks for the replies so far.

I think the seller needs a better camera, especially if he's fishing for a $60,000 dollar customer. It's fun watching the vids. Just LOVE listening to that M22! I've never been a fan/advocate of revving the engine like that (unloaded). You can see how WRONG the color is on the repro seat covers & carpet. Looks like they painted the dash/doorpanels,etc.(which look closer to correct color) Wonder if there will be any bidders. Market seems real soft right now to me. |

Lloyd, How did you get to 10:1 on your Formula? Did you mill the heads or do you have domed pistons? Thanks |

You'll have to forgive me, as my memory isn't the best and we built this engine over five years back, but IIRC the chambers ended up at around 105-107 cc, and we had JE make us a custom piston with a SMALL dome of approximately 10cc volume. Actual calculated static CR is 9.98:1. 467" (455 with a 4.200" bore and stock 4.210" stroke), 430 CBHP @ 5100 and 530 CBTQ @ 2900 on 93 octane pump unleaded. Looks (and sounds - except for the solid lifter music) like a stone stock HO under the hood, manifolds and all.

yup, juice flat cam.
i use rhoads in nearly everything i build, my 81 TA 455 has them; i didnt do this motor, though; bought it as it is. just hung up with nunzi; he tells me the cam's on 113 LSA...but also mentioned there's two different grinds he uses with the same part # (odd...)and i don't know what the cam is regardless; it might not even be his small one. crapspackle! i got me some tearing down to do, it seems. still want a compression test result from someone please.
