MONTY, if you need any more proof of how harmful these psychotropic drugs can be when taken over time then just keep coming back to this thread and read the responses I get. Someone actually said that my "data" isn't valid because I didn't raise as many children as he did???? I understand the need people have to justify their own actions. It's one of the strongest urges that man has to deal with, and overcome. I never made any of this personal. I never suggested that any one had their "heads up their butts." I'm now being told to "keep my mouth shut" because my thinking isn't in line with theirs.

Brent, you're unwittingly making my case every time you post. I've never taken this to a personal level, but you continue to tell me to shut up and get my head out of my a$$. I have compassion for you, Brent.
You are trying to make the argument that only people who suffer from a condition have the right, or the ability to intelligently talk about it. Maybe I was misdiagnosed. Maybe not. I don't find it easy to focus. It's something that I have trained in myself. I hope the best for you and yours, Brent.

Ive got an honest case. you cant follow me but your saying that I just need to focus or my parents should have taught me to focus? what are you smoking? there are more things assoicated with it than focus. again if you dont know shut the hell up. and it pretty obvios you dont. yep you found my buttons. i cant stand dumb asses. why dont you go tell some one who has cancer that if they focus and drink milk it will go away DUH

This is getting out of hand. Monty only wanted information not a fight. It was about how it was diegnosed not if it is real.

Another thing to consider that I don't think that was mentioned - sleep disorders such as Sleep Apnea.
Someone I worked with several years back had a son about 12 years old. Since he had been 7 or 8 they had struggled with behavioral problems at home & in school. At the point when I worked with the mother, the docs had tried every possible combination of ADHD meds and were to the point of him being prescribed anti-psychotics. Finally, a new doc suggested that the kid have a "sleep test" - that had not been done previously. This involved hooking the kid up to various monitoring machines (breathing, heart rate, oxygen level, brain activity, etc) and then having him watched during the night. I guess that it was pretty much evident right away that this kid had a big problem. Ultimately it was determined to wean the kid from his meds, have his tonsils & adenoids removed and I think also he had to use one of those breathing machines at night. I guess it was an almost miraculous improvement. The mother was so upset that this had not been discovered earlier. A key factor just like adults that suffer from Sleep Apnea is snoring. Does you daughter snore? Even if she doesn't she can still have a sleep/breathing problem. This might just be another thing to consider. Sleep tests aren't cheap but usually are covered by insurance. My son was ADD (not ADHD). We resisted for a long time when the schools pushed for Ritalin but ultimately did use it - during school only. He's a smart kid, wasn't hyper but had a hard time concentrating and completing tasks. The best thing that we did was PUSH to get him tested under Special Ed (no not all Special Ed kids are retarded) to allow him to qualify for Tutor/Mentoring. The school never mentioned this to us - how I found out was being a PITA persistent. My son had mentioned some other kids went to a special room and got help with their homework & such. Long story but that was a great tool in communication and keeping him caught up on school work - from 7th thru 11th grade. His middle school mentor was even invited as special guest to my son's Eagle Scout induction ceremony - that's how much influence he had on helping him become a successful student. Was his Ritalin really needed? I still don't know but we were at our wits end and were willing to try the next step. We did the "remove all possible allergen foods from his diet" and that didn't help. The meds did seem to help and we kept them at a minimum and never when he was at home. Good luck with your daughter. CF |
