I have searched the threads here and found a number of discussions on this but most were about the $400 radiators. Searching eBay I have found lots of aluminum radiators that are not as "pretty" .

You start at the $399 aluminum radiators - Pretty factory looking and then to $299 that look the same and are $100 less and then you go to $179 - $199 and these sellers have been getting great reviews as far as the product itself goes.
Anyone bought one of these. I talked to a local guy who bought one for his camaro and he was very happy with it. After the shroud is on (he painted it black) the square end tubs really dont stick out as looking non factory.

ANY THOUGHT BEFORE I SELL MY NEW 4-CORE AND BUY ONE OF THESE?

Summit sells one in the $170.00 range & in my opinion, it's as good as any.

I used a "universal GM" radiator by a company called UNIVERSAL PARTS INC. out of Wisconsin. Quality is great, service is great, and they can do custom modications for cheap. This the one I bought. $399 - comes with shroud and fans. I had them weld aluminum tabs on each side for something like $30!

I do not want to turn this into a discussion about all radiators guys as there are a number of threads out there about the expensive radiators. I am not looking for pros or cons but actual use of these cheaper priced units. According to the feedbacks these sellers have VERY SATISFIED customers so they have to be a nice item.


I am looking for those, if any that have purchased the UNDER $200 models that I have seen and MANY have bought on eBay. I am sure there are dealers for these but I have only seen them on eBay.


1.) I take it the $170 is a generic model? Went to summit and anything made for my Firebird was in the $300 range
2.) I know there are lots of radiators out there in the $300 $400 range and that is why I started this thread.

HI Performance 428 in a stock 1968 Firebird. I bought a new 4 core from Tamraz but want to make sure I am running cool. I does get hot up in here in WI for a day or two each year.

Got a reply back from one of the ebay sellers of these and he has had 0 returns and 0 complaints about leaks, fit etc.
Now these are made for many different models and makes so no issues says a mouth full about quality at least.

I have a 1971 Ventura, I purchased and use now their 31" wide aluminum radiator, it works great. I bought the matching shroud and the 16" high flow fan. If I did it again, i'll do the dual 10 or 12" fans. The radiator is great. You will have to fab some type of mount for it. I think it was under 200 if i remember right.

Which one of the e-bay sellers responded to you? I have both of them bookmarked for future reference and it is always nice to know who takes the effort to respond to potential customers questions.

Holy cow! That's a great price for an aluminum rad! Unfortunately, I didn't see anything on either site for a '67 Lemans. I did, however, email both sellers to ask if anything was available.

I bought one of the under 200 aluminum ones from ebay. looked great, fit fine once the 4 row saddle was changed for a narrower one.

Never ran with it cause I determined that my 4 row was fine.

Sold it to a fellow PYer goes by "Mook" on this board. As far as I know he ran it all last summer. GTO 400/400 with AC.

I put one the $179 summit radiators in my '67 lemans after I accidently ordered a wronged sized (by me!) Griffin. The Griffin was nicer, but I am not a fancy-pants car guy, so the summit looks like it will work just fine (haven't started the new motor yet).

I ordered the summit universal mounts for it and had to play with them a bit to make them work, which was easy enough. Hell, it is even rubber dampened now like a newer car. I can post some pics tomorrow that Sammy B might be interested in since we have the same car.

I don't think a $600 radiator is going to cool $421 better than what I bought, but again I am cheap and like to save money where it makes since to me an no performance or quality seems to lost.

If it splits a seam anytime soon I have PLENTY of JB weld on hand!!!

Looking for an aluminum radiator for a 67 gto with a 428 tripower no a/c and manual transmission. looked at summitt and all were 499 and up. Couldn't even find one for a 67 gto at Universal. aChecked ebay and one seller had one but the filler cap wasn't in the middle. Any ideas?

if you want one EXACTLY like the factory one, your going to have to spend the $400 +. but, if that not important to ya and you just want one that fits and works.
Summit sells the Griffin Aluminum "universal fit" Radiator, $195.95. part# GRI-25222-X, it 26 x19 size, will fit right in the stock 3 core lower mounts, you'll have to fab or rework the top mount, (no big deal) the rad cap will be on the passenger side as this is a crossflow rad, not a downflow like the factory. these are a more efficent design anyways, you can still run the factory fan guard if you want, I do on my 66 Lemans, the lower rad hose from a 69 Chevy pickup 1/2 ton, 307 CI with air conditioning, 2 wheel drive. can be cut down to fit perfectly. the only downside to the "universal fits" are there not equipped with a drain plug. I just pull off the lower hose to drain!

Here is the cheapo ($179.00) summit brand rad. I put in my '67 LeMans. I modified their $12.00 bracket kit for the upper mounts to be rubber mounted like my modern cars. Anyway, a couple of pics below. Good luck!

This is pulled off another site but when the time comes I'm going to look into these radiators. I'm not sure if buicks inlets and outlets locations or angles.



You need to order a HD fan clutch for 1988 Suburban 454 and an aluminum radiator for 1989 Park Ave. These will bolt right in and should cost you around $250. Car will run 160 all day.

John has done this to both my 71 GSX and 69 GS. The 71 was running at about 200 and going as high as 220 in traffic, since the HD fan Clutch been installed it has been running at around 180. The 69 had it also done with the Park ave radiator and it never went over 165 on the way home.

The Park Ave core is 1-row and has a thickness of only 1".
Most aftermarket aluminum core units are 2 rows of 1" tubes (total thickness of 2+").
The visteon 709 or 840 (Chevy Blazer, P-van, etc.) is 1-row with 1-7/16" thick core. Should be about $130. Also Delco 20778.

I've been having a devil of a time with overheating up here at 6000 feet North of Denver. Damn thing runs 210 on the highway with ridiculous fans on it and a stock radiator. Need to increase capacity and haven't found anything palatable. Please help, I'd like to take her out some day soon...
