You are really going all the way with this Judge. The repros are a good alternative.

Never heard of anyone rebuilding a modern style shock. The old 'lever' style shocks, yes, but not the current tube type. But I learn something everyday.

But there is a guy on ebay that will restamp the repro's to the correct #'s and dates.

do you actually plan to DRIVE the concours car? rarely are they driven, so just restore the original (and shot) date coded shocks (ie repaint them) and put them on. If you were going to drive the car, thats another story.

Scott, my car will have the repo spirals installed and yes, no dates or codes. You will be fine, just install the new ones, OR repaint the originals which will be a waste as you will drive the car now and then. I drive my car on nice days and if I can, you can too. Even if it was worth it and possible to rebuild the originals no one is going to be checking the codes on your shocks.

There is a guy in Hemmings that advertises and does it. I think he is in Kansas. I talked to him about a year ago and I think it was about 120 per shock to get them redone. I did not send him a set and just went with the repos.

Oh yes very expensive. Have you looked at the recent value of these Judges? I spoke with a representative from Taylor Insurance who told me that Judge values, especially RAIV cars with 4 speeds, have reached LS6 and Hemi levels. Pontiac was behind these cars in value for quite sometime but no longer.

I was told some check and some don't. We don't at our regional. Even if they do, spending $500 plus to restore yours, ship them back to you in time for the nationals (even if they guy can get them done in time) is just too much money and time is ticking...........

Or just blast and paint your originals.

some judges check and other do not, never seen a point taken off - D&R camaro offers the ones with the lettering and you stamp your own date code better than blank - or find a nice set of originals or there are still some NOS out there I have bought 3 sets in the last few years did not pay much either. They were used on all a-body. I like to go to the buick shows the stuff sells for nothing compaired to the pontiac shows.

You could run the repops or off the shelf shocks painted grey throughout the year and swap them with some originals for the nationals.

Not all the shocks were sprial. I have seen the rears that have the correct color and date code with no sprial housing. I just went to a local swap meet this weekend and a guy had a box of 20 shocks that were take offs from new cars in the late 60's I bought a few sets $30 each pair. I bought a 67 Sprial rear set, 70 Sprial front set and 71 NON sprial rear set. They have the date code on them so they are what they are. It was a cool buy. All of them were that flat grey in color and all had black overspray on them from when the chassie was blacked out. All of them also had the white paper tags with the 2 letter code. They look brand new.
