Larry, is that Century Transmission?
Ken, I'll give you $1,500 for it right now.

That's an old filing cabinet in the pic. Core included means no core charge, no exchange needed. I will deduct the core price if someone provides an exchange. It is $75 on a 200-4R. No converter included. I recommend Edge or PTC for a good converter, and I have a couple of sources for budget mild street converters. |

Is the 200r4 a direct bolt on replacement for a TH350 on a second gen firebird?
I am in the New York area, any known good tranny builders around here?

You can use the same driveshaft, the TV cable must be set properly.
I used BTO level III 200r4 , TV kit, and their convertor behind my 301 for 2yrs, no problems. As soon as I get my new 428 straightened that will also go with their 2600 rpm convertor. I will post how that goes!! |

Birdman, you have to move the tranny crossmember back a little. Nowadays there is a crossmember available to bolt right in though.
Your original tranny mount is fine, just use the metric bolts to fasten it to the tranny. The cooling lines even hook up, but you have to tweak them a little (rebend here and there by hand to get the new angle as the exact connection points are not the same.) Speedo cable hooks right up and the tranny of course bolts to the "five families". I have only ever seen one 200-4R with a BOP only pattern. I believe it was a first year edition too (1981?) This is the easiest trans upgrade if you are replacing a 350 short tail. We have four of them in our fleet now. Not a single problem or issue.

Thanks Overkill, however when I installed my 3.73 rear, I could not get the correct drive/driven gear for the speedo so I had a converter box made. When I get (or have it built) the 200R4 I just tell them what rear ratio I have and get it with the correct setup?
Do you know any fairly reputable tranny shops in the New York area? ( I am around 80 miles N/W from NYC)

I use a GN governor always in my 200-4R's. If I was running a 3.73 gear like you I would run an 86-88 Monte SS driven gear (I forget the color off hand). A 3.42 rear then I run the Buick GN driven gear, and 3.23 I run the Turbo T/A (1989) driven gear.
Given your locale, I would go to Level 10 in North Jersey. Only a hop, skip and jump from the big city. Just don't make the same mistake I made one time by telling them I wanted number 11 on a scale of 1 to 10! Holy crap, the rear axle would literally jump off the pavement when it shifted to second! Had to tone it down a bit after the novelty wore off (about a day and a half later!)
