I bought a front load Amana about 6 months ago. I didn't care how less water it used or less electricity as I bought it cause it was on sale. I hated our top load washer cause every time it was on spin cycle it walked all over the floor no matter how full it was or wasn't. Have no complaints at all on the front load one. It cleans as well as the top load. If I had a complaint at all its having to bend over to get the clothes in and out of it but no big deal cause I just throw em over in the dryer anyway in same bend.
It is recommended to always leave the door open a little otherwise it will start smelling (they say its from water sitting in the door gasket lip or not draining completely out of the tub). I didn't leave door open for first 3 months and never noticed it smelling though or any grunge slime in that door gasket lip but we use it every couple days usually so it never sits with stagnant water in it over time to start smelling. |

If you live in the San Fancisco Bay area, you shouldn't have problems bending over.
A front loader simply is better. Case closed. I don't know where you guys installed your washers. Don't you have some kind of ventilation? Anywhere there's movement of air, mold and mildew will not grow |

Where I am I have a septic system AND water cost a ton.
I went with the Fisher Paykel top loader set. It uses a little more water than fl machines but the wash time is a fraction of a fl. It's actually fun to watch a load, the DC direct drive motor does some cool stuff . The washer spins 1000 rpm, the clothes come out pretty dry. The dryer was a bit pricey but it auto senses well so it's saving me from extended drying times. So far I like them a lot, only time will tell if they are durable. I had too many questions about the front loaders and it seemed like they take a long time to wash, and require different soap.

I'm glad I have free water and sewage, I own my well and septic.
People say the FL's clean better. How would someone know such a thing???? I mean, my clothes are VERY clean from my old, has been TL.

I bought the lg tromm washer and dryer setup 3 months ago and like them so far. The spin cycle on the washer is incredible and really cuts down drying time, and you can barely hear them run.

Since they are more gentle on clothes, I wondered how they would compare to a top load. Tops loads are harder on clothes. I'm hoping this solves the problem of all my dark clothes fading too fast by washing them. I asume it's the dryer that does that though.

My wife is a fanatic about her clothes. The new front load washer/ dryers will clean better and do less damage to clothes. She has made this very clear to me and I totally believe what she says as all husbands should.
I do see a major improvement in the whites. My shorts actually come out white again. As to how much the front load washers will hold/wash. My 4.0 cubic foot LG will flat wash more clothes, like twice as much as our old top loader. We might have to agree to disagree on this but that is what I have seen.

Well when I wear underwear, pants and shirt for 3-5 days straight they do get cleaner than when I took them all off...LOL

We all know how the old TL's work. FL's clean with shallow water and the clothes tumbling over each other does the agitating.
The Fisher Paykel TL distributes soap, instead of pooring it in on top, and it seems to clean a whites a little better than my old TL's. The agitation is also different, it drives both directions instead of the old ratcheting corkscrew. But FP claims the way the soap is distributed is what cleans clothes, agitation is only to allow the particles to fall from the fabric and the fast rinse and spin cycle separates them for good. Watching the laundry has a hypnotic effect somewhat like watching a campfire. I used to keep my infant some busy by running a washload. That gave me time to run down to the bar and chug down a beer

If you like Korean products. The boys up in Benton Harbor, Mich, and Newton, Iowa don't need the jobs.
I'm in the biz, I prefer not to sell LG. A tip on buying appliances. You'll always get better prices and service buying from an independent dealer than you'll get from a big box store. More knowledgeable sales people, too, not someone who just came over from the lawnmower department. |

Sorry. I figured the appliance maufacturers have turned over several times since I was in the biz back in the early 90s. I never even asked what was the comparable American made and owned product. I don't think they would've known the answer anyway. I knew LG was Korean.
Last I knew, there were 3 major appliance compaines. Roper was owned by Whirlpool. I don't remember the rest. Can you post the American made/owned companies? I don't feel bad snubbing a foreign owned company. |
