Default no interest

I just ran my rust free california redbird on ebay, can still find it in completed auctions. It only bid up to 2500 and it is totally rustfree with 77000,is there just no interest in these cars since it not a trans am or older firebird,I would take a 3 grand hit to sell it for that.guess I will take it to the ta nationals in a couple of months.I would have hoped to get in the 4500 -5000 range. So im asking the pontiac guys what should I do.hold on to it .

The late 70's Esprit S/E's (Redbird,Yellowbird & Skybird) are interesting, but nonetheless "girly cars" to the MAX!

The current (WAS healthy) market for late 70's T/A's is driven by their MACHO & Performance image, none of which is present in the Esprits.

The ultimate fate for ANY clean non-T/A or Formula Firebird will be a basis for a "clone" T/A or "tribute ? car" as they now call them.

However at this time, there is still no shortage of originals out there,& don't think the appreciation curve for a late 70's Esprit will be very significant.

Remember, they are ONLY worth what somebody is prepared to pay you for them.

Special editions and big engined cars are really the only "top sellers" for Firebirds after 1974. 6 cylinders and 305\301\265 cars are worth virtually nothing on the resale market for the most part unfortunately. 2manyT/A's is right, if it is a very clean and rust free vehicle that isn't a Trans Am, its fate is most likely to end up as a base for repairing a more desireable Trans Am.

Loose the red bird image, turn it into a car someone would want; trunk, front and wheel well spoilers, wheels and tires.

Custom Firebird sounds a lot better and with the price of gas the way it is, even the 305 starts sounding appealing.

I'd PM firebirdparts over on Trans Am Country, he is always talking about the Redbirds, he may be interested in the car or know someone who is, at the least, he is very knowledgable about the these cars and the values, ect.

Personally, I would definitely NOT hack it up or (~shudder~) "customize" it. Takes $thousands to undo that kind of stuff in order to make it saleable. These things actually will be worth something (not a HUGE amount...) someday. If you're in a hurry to get too much cash for it in the near future, you could always try the Barrett-Jackson route out in AZ; even a totaled early-'70s VW Beetle rotted to the windows would probably fetch 5-figs out there, possibly even now in this cratering mkt.
