Question about moldings on GTO
Hi
I'm looking at a 68 GTO convertible. The car looks real nice but it has no wheel well molding or rocker panel moldings, were they options? Should they be on the car as standard equipment? Just would appreciate some insight on this. I just don't know about GTO equipment yet and I'm under the gun Thanks Littlehim |

Little:
The car should have moldings. Maybe the guy didn't have them. They are available aftermarket. I am located real close to you and have lots of knowledge on 68s. I just picked up a convert myself. If you need any help just pm me and I will give you my number. Peter |

I agree with Peter. The '68 will have rocker and wheel well moldings without exception to be correct.
Most likely, they were removed by choice by some previous owner...Some folks just prefer them that way. I put that right up there with painting the rear bumper body color myself ...But, different strokes for different folks!

Both moldings were on the car from the factory. Your choice in putting them back on, but this is what they were created with.

What I gather here is the molding are correct for rocker and wheel wells. If anyone knows differently let me know as tomorrow the car is getting its prepurchase inspection.

Everyone above is correct. The car should have wheelwell and rocker mouldings. Also the rear rocker mouldings should be present behind the back wheels.

This tech section has proved to be very helpful. Thanks for everyones help, I decided to back off on the 68 GTO. My 1975 TA with 16300 original miles, original paint, 4 speed, ac, original paperwork and some other nice options and my cash for his car didn't make sense after using this forum.
Thank you ED |

I have another Trans AM a 1970 (and a Z28) thats why I'm interested in getting a GTO.
A convertible 4 speed would be great. Thanks ED |

Darn it, I already have 3 cars and only one pontiac - do I plead to the wife for a 4th or get rid of a chevy?
