I thought I'd do a bit of an update on mine. Here it is just after I painted it about a week ago. Now all that's left is to paint the bumpers and a few other small pieces, then put it all back together, lol. I hope it looks ok.

Ive seen your car at some local shows but never met you,
very nice job on the 75! I would have won 1st place
with my crappy paint in Northampton PA 2006 if you
had not have shown up with your 75 T/A! there were
only 2 or 3 70s birds there that day.

No your not crazy they made more of them but most are gone due to
a lack of people caring about them & stuff like this at the bottom Ugh!

I rember when the junk yards were full of them and parts were still hard to find
because high school kids hacked up anything that was usable for the interiors
with speaker holes or added scoops & flairs to the outsides.

I always saw more 77-81 camaros than birds back in the day,
I think I read somewhere that they built like 9 camaros
for every 1-2 firebirds of the 2nd gen.

In the 1980s-1990s "true musscle cars" up to 1972
were all the rage and any thing that was considered
a "smog slug" was beat on & modified till it died. usually the guy would
just get another car and start over.

I bought my 75 455 T/A with no rust all numbers matching for about
$2,500 in 1998 and that was considered too much to pay for
a 70s T/A back then. My 75 base bird was $1,100 and had like
2 car loads of spare parts with it. My buddys laughed cause it
had the "crappy pontiac motor" and parts cost way more than chevy parts.
they always said it would never go fast cause it cost too much.

People would give those cars away for like $500 and High School kids would
buy them & finish them off.
I know at least 2 guys I went to school with who between the 2 of them
must have wrecked 8 79-81 camaros & 3 Monte Carlo SS's.

Back then everyone either wanted a 67-69 camaro or a 86-92 camaro
or T/A GTA anything in the middle was considered disposable junk.

I'm glad I grabbed mine when I did, the prices are really going up now
and parts are getting harder to find.

Also arround here they still use the 70-81 camaros & firebirds at
the local dirt circle track, for a street stock class. I breaks my
heart to see 77-81 T/As & Z-28s cut up & painted like Demo Derby cars.
With amature hill billys beating the crap out of them, I'd take photos but it's
kinda gruesome even to see them on a trailer going down the road.
I think they are a big reason fenders & doors are VERY hard to get arround here.

If it really is in good shape body wise I'd be torn between using it as a parts car
or building a pontiac powered daily driver out of it. I guess I'd I'd keep it all together
and sell the buick & use the disk brakes on a T/A.

I have a big soft spot for base model Firebirds.

Anyone ever drive or own a 6 cyl 2nd gen bird? I saw only one in a junk yard once.
I cant even imagine the suckieness of the rate of acceleration, must be painfull
to get one up to 55mph.

my formula clone back into a base model bird, I dont know why I just
think it's cool to see one not as a T/A or Formula lately.

listed as a 1974 SD T/A with a 1970 nose.

Yes, I want to build a 69 TA clone, and someday want a 77 SE Bandit TA. I have a 79 SE black/gold TA with no motor or trans I'd like to sell too. The 79 needs resto but body is solid!!

I kind 'a figure that must bee it. I was one of those high school kids hacking up those cars back in the late '70's early '80's. The car you see below was bought by a friend of mine (Hi Chris if your out there in TV land) back in '84 from the second owner who had tried (from what I can tell) to make it a "Bandit" car. I got the PH papers for it and from what I can tell it didn't come with a bird so "they" put a gold bird and some snow flakes on it. Somewhere along the line they put a 1970 RAIII engine in it too which back when we were stupid 19yr old kids we didn't know about we just thought someone had put a cam and headers on the car and that's why it ran better than a stock '74 would have. I didn't find out what the engine really was until 2002 when I started to get the car rebuilt. I had already bought all the parts and had all the machine work done to the engine before I truly realized what I had or I would have just sold the whole thing (engine) on eBay. As it is I sold the heads and manifold off it for $850 and the carb (7040273) for $2775 and the carb appeared to have the incorrect base plate, possibly off the original '74 carb. That helped a bunch since I was laid off at the time!
