Will a headlight dimmer switch cause my headlights to flicker on and off and then quit? Can it cause my left tailight not to work too? I have a worn/sloppy felling dimmer switch that feels normal when turning right, and that tailight works as it should, but is harder to get it clicked into the left turn postion, and that is the side that the brake light quit working. Hope that made sense. Oh, And how hard is it to replace the switch in the column? Thanks

Sounds like a good possablity to me..The current from the headlamp switch channels through the dimmer, so loose connections can give you the problem..
Replacing the switch will not be easy for the novice repair guy as it takes quite a bit of column disassembly.. Get your hands on the service manual for referance and TAKE YOUR TIME.

Column mount dimmer, works by a rod like the igniton switch. It's mounted beside the ignition switch, under the dash on the column.
Sounds like you need dimmer and turn signal switch. A good mechanic should easily knock it out in a couple of hours. |
