Can you say "custom made"?

Order a pair from PY; 67-69 Firebird headers. $59.

My findings on fitting them to a '62 Cat. are someplace in the archives.

A good deal and inexpensive to make them work.

59's have an X type frame (like Chevy's) and I don't think Firebird headers will be even close to a fit.

In 1966, Doug Thorly custom built two sets of headers for a 1959 pontiac, one set for myself and the other for a guy in Calif. They were four tube slip fit, two tubes ran on the outside of the frame rail and two on the inside. They were a work of art, beautiful fit, etc. Around 1994 I sold ($100.00) them to a guy on the East coast to install on a 1960 pontiac.I wish I had kept them now.

I am also in need of a set of headers for my '59. I see this is a way old post but has anyone found out anything on headers for a '59?

Probably custom would be needed for headers, have you given any thought to Ram Air or long branch manifolds? BTW welcome aboard.

At least on my 55, I was going to buy a set of 4 tube, since the passenger side I can use about anything, than the drivers side , have them modified. May be cheaper than starting from scratch. I have 3-tubes on now without cutting them up. You'll only know when you start trying.

I just modified a set of GTO headers for my race car...only problem is you could not make them work with mufflers.... I had a set of original Headman 1960 headers on it. When I bolted them to late model heads the "angle" was not right..they worked but needed turn downs.. The old '60 Headmans were meant to run with the stock exhaust to..The X frame creates problems. I was wondering if perhaps you could use a set of "shorty" headers....I have used the HO long branches with stock exhaust...need custom bent head pipe...
I'll include a couple of pics so you see what I mean...
I mightthink about selling my Headman's....maybe..
NOTE: This car has a TH400 in it. Collector needs final welding...

60man, I don't have a problem with shorties. I'd rather run full headers though. I found a crapload of reciepts for exhuast on my car in the glove box. There were several repairs on the crossover pipe from the 60s and 70s(and it looks like someone welded it with their left foot). I took all the exhuast off right now. I'm definately going with duals all the way back. I guess I didn't really think about that. Shorties will work fine and take a lot less searching and maybe customizing. BUT if you do decide to sell yours, I'd like a shot at them.

I'll let you know if I decide to sell my Headman's......they are extremely hard to find though...that's why I'm hesitating...

Here's what I ended up doing. I don't like how low it is but I don't think there's any other way unless you go through the frame.

Look how low it is though!

60man, After looking back at your pics, looks like we did pretty much the same thing. Your headers went lower than mine. And I didn't have to turn outwards to go under the frame. I just 45 down and then 45 to level it and it's about 1" under the frame. It's too low for comfort but it'll have to do until I figure something else out. Ever have problems with yours? I can see this set up not liking speed bumps.

We just made a set fit for my friends 59 and we used a set of donated first gen Firebird headers. As originally installed the headers hit the inside of the X-frame, but enough heat brought the collector in and allowed for clerance. We also had to turn the emergency brake bracket upside down and run the cable over the cross member. I thought we were done since this is a drag car, but now he informs me that he wants to be able to run muffers, so we are considering going through the frame. Anyone welded in 4" tube to allow the pipe to pass through the frame?

I'd love to see pictures! Point him in the direction of Pontiac-59.com. I'd love to hear about his car.

After wiring up the starter there's no way the header wont burn that starter up in a few days. It's just too close. It's also just too low to the ground where it goes under the frame. I'm going to build some side mount headers.
