the summit piece is nice but it wont fit with a AP front plate. It is too large a diameter. I was impressed with the quality but had to send it back.

I just pulled the piece of crap off.... so far 3 of the 6 small screws are backed out and bent..fortunately the outer ring just spins freely and moved in and out about 1/4", it only scraped up my trigger wheel a little but no damage to it and it rubbed the bottom of the timing tab area on the cover. I am not going to try to remove any of the other screws to see how it is attached...held together.I thought that the 6 #12 screws just held on the red ring with their name on it. I am going to try and get this warrantied..it is only 4 months old. If they replace it, I sure won't use it on anything but a street engine. I figured it was a decent part since our pontiac vendors are selling them....NOT!!!! I will post some pics for reference in a little bit. Bill
here's a link to ATI and it shows how this piece of crap comes apart!! http://www.atiperformanceproducts.co...pers/index.htm |

Hate to hear it. I am running one and in great shape. Replaced the BHJ unit that spun. Just checked it for TDC and still right on. I have also sold quite a few and no issues from customers............... so far.
If these are supposed to be SFI rated as to not come apart. How are they getting past the SFI rating. Hum............ NHRA went to this system to eliminate this problem. |

TCI Rattler and ATI. For street-ability or wide RPM ranges the Rattler is better, ATI is better for more specific RPM ranges. IMO

If they warrantee it see what they say about covering damage it could have caused had it failed when you were racing. If they cant reassure you ask for $$ instead of replacement. They shouldnt fail like that especially if it comes with no maintenance instructions or need to be loctited. Raise heck for sure(be a gentleman though)! I had one on my shopping list looks like I'm going to look into the Summit or just buy a TCI now.

Ive been using the "street" version for about a year now. Although, It rarely sees anything over 5K RPM. It looks just the like the one posted, except the red ring. It seems to be working fine, but like I said, not a race engine. I thought the SFI balancers arent supposed to have a rubber ring???

The Summit SFI Balancer is made by Pro-Race (www.pro-race.com). I guess Summit buys them in bulk and has them laser etched w/ their logo. They sell for quite a bit more on the Pro-Race Website.

Yep and Jegs has them too, very nice for a steel damper, Overall the TCI and ATI are the best they really can't come apart But why can't they make em in 4- bolt pattern, it just seems it was an after thought and not designed from the ground up for poncho's

Well there is a 1 year warranty on this thing. I was told to send it back with a copy of their email for a free replacement...it will ship out Mon. If I get a replacement from them...I will just use it on a street engine that will not see 7k plus rpm or maybe sell it if someone is interested.LOL...Bill

Just curious, did the bolts loosening cause all the failures? Are they failing in other ways as well?

I remember when Summit used to sell decent stuff. Times have changed. Yep, I know, the customer is always right. If he wants to cheap out and buy a lower quality part, so be it. In the old days the respected owner in the speed shop would stay "Keep your money, stay away from that crap, and when you have enough to buy a quality balancer, come see me."

I gots the "Made In Australia" PMD Balancer. It seems fine.
There is a recurring issue: the 4-bolt pulley gets red-rust at the 4-bolt holes because the 4-bolts seem to loosen every week. the 4-bolt pulley holes are now curved ovals. I stopped checking it 5 months ago. Probably need to re-drill the 4-bolt Pulley, and use Clutch-fan studs. HIS |

I had one come apart on me this season, luckily no damage.I now run the ATI I should have had on there from the beginning.I also know of 2 others that came apart on my friend's cars.If its a race engine get it off there before it lets you down.

So I guess for the guys like myself, loctight and frequent inpections are in the future for those who have one but not yet used it or had no damage yet. That until money comes up for a better one. Lesson learned. Thanks LMS for making me worry about my fuel system. Duel inlets and outlets, filter and pumps. Well I guess I will cross my fingers when I fuel her up.
